I will be setting up a PO Box, because I'll need one anyway for a business I plan on launching in the next few months. The business will include art but be about much more...more to come on this later...

I will reply to this "inquiry" telling them Paypal only, just, again, on the off chance...

ask them for their number so you can call them up?

From my experience of selling things over the internet I usually ask for payment via paypal and for large amounts I only consider Bank money orders or money orders through the post office and they could send it to my place of business. I NEVER give anyone my bank details for money transfers.

If they insist on sending you a check make sure you receive it and it is the CORRECT amount. Usually what scammers do is send you a check for a higher amount and ask you to wire them the difference and later you find out that their money order is no good.

Paypal is safe but not as safe as you think, people can send you money and you ship out against that. Later they call their credit card companies and reverse the payment. So you are stuck without the money and lost the merchandise. I have had that happen to me. mad

I'm very happy the painting is to you and your husband's liking, Mrs._____
I am handling sales exclusively through Paypal at the moment. This would be the most effective/efficient way to purchase this piece.
I handle shipping and it is included in the quoted price.
Thanks,
John G.

Fingers crossed that they're legit...

I could be wrong, but I can't imagine a scenario where a person who can buy a painting that costs $1000+ can only pay by check.

If they insist on paying by check you have to be weary of a couple of things

1. They will get your bank information details.

2. The check may bounce and you would have to pay NSF charges.

3. They may over pay you and ask you to wire them or send them the extra amount. Don't ever send money back if they overpay you. It is most likely fraud.

On the other hand I know you really want to sell your painting and ask them to mail you the check to a PO Box number and proceed from there.

I usually am quite weary doing large amount transactions online but there is no other way out. But most of my shoppers are women so I tend to ease up a bit on them.
