A friend of mine who is very pretty recently got married, then i saw her man and i thought-She has to be joking but then i figured he's probably nice and treats her right. i want ur opinions please...

Looks always matter because that's the first thing you often notice about somebody and we are all lustful to a certain degree. Do looks sustain a relationship? Probably not but then there are people who stay in unhealthy relationships because the person is hot and there are people who cheat on their really kind hearted/intelligent partners for a peice of ass that looks good.

Anybody who says looks don't matte is a damn lie and I dare them to get it on with a one eyed peg legged smelly troll who happens to be really nice. falloff

There are many facets 2 a human being. Looks is probably the least important when u get down 2 it.

But it seems 2 be the one we put the most stock in.

Yup, they matter in society in general and they matter to me.

It's not the only thing that matters but it's certainly high up on the list.

also it's downright biological....if someone is physically appealing, we are more likely to want to breed with them right? Loos matter in the animal kingdom too, some animals in the wild use their looks to appeal to the opposite sex. For instance, male peacocks and swallows will fan out their colorful plumage to appeal to the females and male lions with the bigger manes are more successful in getting the girls. With humans, we tend to our appearance and make sure we smell good when we are looking for a partner.

Yes, looks matter, but personality seriously can change the way you perceive a persons looks! smile

I kinda agree...I know plenty of hateful bitches that are hot as hell...I may not want anything to do with them, but their physical good looks remain in spite of their other faults

That's totally true for me. How I view someone's looks has a lot to do with how I feel about them as a person.

I would say it's a combination. The very first thing I look at on a person is obviously their looks. But their personality to make them more or less attractive within a certain standard deviation.

And the hottest person in the world couldn't put me under their spell if they're stupid or a douche. It just would never happen.

I've walked away from girls before who uttered homophobic or racist statements. You can go from a 10 to a 0 pretty damned quick that way. lol

So I guess I can deeply admire a person's looks, but not be under their spell? Every thing fades. Looks fade, intelligence eventually gives way to senility. Hell, even ambition eventually gives way to quiet content with most folks. At the end of the day, god help a person if all they have left is fading looks and standards they can't meet themselves.

That being said, I'll sleep with a douche-bag post haste if that's all I'm interested in. shrug

Well, I was moreso thinking of the inverse of that. I've seen some people who looks-wise would not really catch my eye, but have really shining personalities that make them look so attractive
If you will, so will I

That makes them likable to me, but not physically attractive or good looking.

Not really. Looks...are just that, looks. I would hate for someone to only like me for mine so I will return the favor. If she is everything that I am looking for and puts an effort to look her best, I am cool with that. That is the most anyone can ask for.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and mention meeting people over the internet. Funnily enough you can get to know someone from the inside out by learning how they think and react and what is funny to them. Once you got a good idea of their inner workings, I find your perception of their exterior is significally altered, because you won't be relying on that first impression of attractive or not attractive, since you already like them!

But yeah, if I meet a real life person, I'm going by their appearance as first clue about what they are like, and our brains are wired to seek out facial symmetry and clear skin and direct eye contact, which unfairly rules out a good percentage of the population neutral

In every relationship exists attraction and I guess in the case of your friend the attraction is based on personality. That's 'the right package'
