that may be fine if a band is actually making money. But many small bands are all paying to be doing it. They're equal partners.

Once you have clout like Prince, and you're the boss, paying the bills, then yeah be the boss. But in the beginning you have to make the other musicians want to play with you.

Yah, you need to chill BIG TIME. You sound like you are too full of yourself. You are not Prince, and if you keep it up you are going to find yourself without a band.

i never said i was Prince,I'm saying am I the only person who adapt from Prince

I get it, but you're "adapting" habits that make people NOT want to play with you. I am a musician myself, so I know how musicians think. If you act like an ass, you are going to have a hard time finding ANYBODY to play with you, so work on your skill set and stop trying to emulate Prince, cause you are going to end up alienating yourself from quality musicians. Bad word travels fast....

or emulate Prince in the positive ways. I doubt any of us knows what Prince is really like to work with, but we do know he's a fantastic musician. Emulate that.

Prince read the James Brown guidebook like it was the bible.

Its reality some people don't seem to understand.

Fauxie

So being unable to copy the part of Prince that makes him an extremely talented singer-songwriter-musician you chose to copy the part that's a total prick? lol

Start a website and screw people over with it, even if it's just your mom who signs up. smile

Who does he answer to? Maybe for legal matters, but when it comes to his music and band, he doesn't answer to anyone, unless you know something we don't.

He has to answer to the people he treats like shit. To think that he doesn't is stupid.

I agree....but if you want 2 be the boss ..I think you must step up and take the roll...weather ur making money or not...a band needs someone to yake the lead...But i do agree 2 an exstent

razz name 3...on the level of Prince's band/bands

Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. I saw them two weeks ago, and they are phenomenal. There were eleven people on stage, and it was like they were all operating from the same mind. Even when they took requests from the audience (including a song Bruce hadn't played since 1981 and then it was with a different band!), they fucking killed it as if they'd been rehearsing it all year.

Robert Randolph's Family Band. Seen them live also, and they are CRAZY tight.

The Roots are incredibly tight, maybe not quite on the level of Prince's bands in terms of musical proficiency, but a super tight outfit.

All three (Bruce, Randolph and Black Thought) are known to be great people to work for. When you treat people well, they want to do a good job for you.

I give you props caus you are making me re-evaluate my opinion a little...
but these guys are not as prolific as prince(bruce maybe)...
all n all...I think you don't have to be a asshole to run a tight ship...
but...I think the more serious you are ...the more you can get done
I also saw these roots a couple of months ago...they were great.

Drummers beat stuff on a regular basis:

Keep in mind Jellybean clocks the mess out of the Kid in Purple Rain.

Be nice to your bandmates and everyone else, for that matter. It pays dividends.

There's a special bond between Prince, sand-dollars and certain fans. You need to present Prince with a sand-dollar. His reaction will determine whether or not you two are on the same spiritual plane.

This test never fails.

Inspiration - yes. Being oneself, uncompromising when necessary, original, daring...

Arrogance - I don't think he has influenced me in that way.

It's okay to tell your friends there are other things you'd rather do than spending time with them as long as you really feel that way and as long as you are not arrogant.
A little bit of arrogance is okay in certain situations, but extreme arrogance may be something that not even an enormous talent can justify.
(Just for the record - I do not think Prince is extremly arrogant.)
