would you take a 5.5 % pay cut,

if it meant better hours, and less stress?

that's what I need to decide

YEs.

I needed to work less to take care of my son, and now I'm back to a full time job. It's more money, but more stress. I still decided to keep my friday morning to take drawing lessons, and I don't regret it.

Quality of life also means enjoy your time and money. What's the point working like a dog when you don't have time to spend this money nor have time to do what you like ?

if you make 30,000 you're looking at about $1500 a year less. divide that by 12 months and that $120 a month less, $30 a week. as long as they don't cut your benefits, i always say take the cut if it reduces stress. that's why when my company offers promotions, i pass--what you're offering vs what i make now never make it worth it

Shucks, that's nothing for peace. I've taken a much larger cut. Peace is golden.

My first gut reaction was to say "heck no, I don't make enough money as it is" but as it stands, even if I kill myself with overtime, which really isn't allowed, I still won't be making enough money to make the moves I'll make... so I'd take the 5.5% pay cut to work on promoting my artwork and stories or at least towards universal health care

for less stress and hours that would be a def yes.

i know a lot of people who have had to take a 10% cut and do the same if not more work for it.

I would suggest one thing. Is the job going to equally interesting?

I don't know if I'd do it if I was trading stress for boredom.

Our company did this for all employees for the summer this year, but it was mandatory--Fridays off from Memorial Day to Labor day and a 20% pay cut during those weeks. And there wasn't less stress. If anything there was more stress because we were required to do the same amount of work in four days a week instead of five.

However, we were allowed to accept unemployment benefits for that time because our hours were reduced so some of the money we lost we got back.

I guess if the alternative is layoffs, it's not too bad. But yeah that's funny, you don't see employers mandating a 5% reduction in workloads!

again, better than losing your job altogether, but I know your work was waiting for you when you got back, and with more piled on top of it!

it was sooooo quiet, it was frightening how little work we had to do, we were sitting there doing our own private projects or surfing the net. One guy was laid off though cry
