A question for the REAL rockers out there: Are you really rocking out if you are not making a mad face?

Are you really rocking out if you are not making a mad face? I mean, are you really rocking out if you tune your guitar down to C and break out the death metal hell of loud rock with a smile on your face?

I say that you are not really rocking out unless you either look like you are totally pissed off or you need to take a serious shit.

What do you think?

EDIT: I mean, sometimes you have to make the mad face when you are just listening to some loud rock... it is absolutely mandatory when playing it!

...

I just cannot imagine young teenagers making the mad face to bubblegum pop... strange indeed!

I know that loud rock has been a catalyst in MANY fights and various beatings... I wonder if anyone has ever gotten so worked up that they had to release a severe beating on someone while listening to N-Sync.

The real truth is that you have to sling your guitar really, really low, making it hard to hit barre chords and causing early onset of carpal tunnel syndrome. This will cause your hands to hurt, helping you make the mad face!

Shouldn't it make you feel like drawing a pentagram on the floor and getting a contact high from the five joints you lit, one at each point?

I believe that you can be totally rocking out without the requisite face. I've seen it done. And the person's calm demeanor makes it all the more evil. Like, how do they contain themselves?

See for example, Robert Smith.

Now in reaction to the music, that's a totally different bag. Usually I can't contain myself. I'm usually flailing about the room, screaming, spitting, what have you. Just generally in the mood to fuck shit up.

Great question.

I'm not sure about the face but when I was younger and pissed, I played it on the guitar (and people felt it).

A lot of E string in various rhythms mostly fast. Now Slayer doesn't work for me. I still enjoy a little "hell awaits" once in a while but I'm not "right there" with it.

What are people so pissed off about? That's a silly question, pick something.

Eight string bass and tuned down to D are two things that really helps convey the anger.

Shit... I jump around on stage like a goddamned LUNATIC... I break shit... I have even fallen down on stage and made it look like a Satanic convulsion without missing a note!

I can see how a calm demeanor could be pretty evil though... I will have to look into this.

A man playing rock MUST have the rock face... otherwise it just isn't as powerful...

Now, me... I don't make the rock face while listening to rock.

The same use 2 apply with rap music, i mean u weren't really considered gansta if u dared 2 show ur pearly whites, Hammer got critized for that ... but then there was Will Smith who changed all that ... you see rappers smiling around everywhere... I think Once Kelly Osburn find her Prince charming of darkness ... she will change rock music and u will see hard rockers smiling everywhere smile.

Take the guitars down to C and use 11 gauge strings... you will feel the EVIL!
