I wrote in cursive until college. I don't know why, but I switched to printing. Maybe printing felt more manly lol

Cursive seems a little outdated, personally. Maybe it allows someone to write more quickly, without lifting the pen?

I was just thinking about this subject, though, because I was trying to write in cursive, something I haven't done since the early 90's.

The real issue is that none of my writing, print or cursive, is remotely legible.

When I administer the SATs, there is a part on there where students are required to write- not print- a statement about authenticity.

I have to literally write the whole alphabet- upper & lowercase on the board!

Also, I was in a meeting, and there was paperwork to be signed. The student didn't know how to sign her name in cursive, so I casually said I'd show her. Her mother started arguing with me that it wasn't necessary, that she could write an "X" and it would suffice. Again- it wasn't like I was asking for a pint of blood. talk to the hand

I think cursive writing is beautiful and fluid. I like to see things written by the old-school teachers in that perfect Zaner-Bloser.

When I was in school, once we learned cursive in Elementay School, we had to turn in ALL homework written in cursive all the way through High School!

I asked my coworker whose daughter is in 4th grade if Jane learned cursive. She said yes, and she has to do all her work in it now.

This thread confuses me. What exactly is meant by cursive? We never called it that at school. It's 'joined-up' handwriting? lol i.e. all handwriting? i.e. the way children write once they know how and how all adults write? Is this not true? I'm confused.

We're not talking calligraphy here are we.

Here, in Grenada, we call it "writing joined-on" lol

lol We're so crude. dunce

ZombieKitten

My 9 year old is learning it at school. It's compulsory, they gave him this to help with his grip.
