Here's an extra finger. smoker
Actually when i'm dead, i will smoke one more time.

I think the numbers are much higher in Europe.

I was stunned how many people smoke in the UK and Germany. And folks around them don't seem to mind as much as Americans do. Americans will actually give off very nasty glares at smokers, even when the smokers are in designated smoking areas.

I always thought Europe would be ahead of the curve in that respect, but it's much more common to find smokers there than here.

I love when someone says to me "your smoke is killing me!"

I have one of 2 responses prepared.

1) The sooner the better!

or

2) With that attitude, I don't think it's my SMOKE that's going to kill you.

but I am (usually) a considerate smoker and try not to bother anyone else with it.

I smoke since ever. I managed to quit for three monthes some monthes ago, and I started again.

I'm very disappointed. I want to quit. It's a very bad habit and I feel I am like a slave, addicted to nicotin.

There's a lot of smokers in France, when I look at people smoking I think : "it's so stupid to smoke"... And yet I'm still having my ciggies in my bag and light one whenever I have 5 minutes to spend.

Smoking is associated to a "break" in my mind, so each time I want a break, I smoke. Yet I need to find something else to do and think about when I have a break.

All advises are welcome.

The best advice is not to replace it with anything.

So if you associate a ciggie with a break, just take a break and breathe. After you've quit for a while your brain will stop associating nicotine with oxygen and will appreciate the oxygen.

Some people replace smoking with food or exercise but they just move the addiction and either get fat or exercise too much.

Best way to do it is follow the full nicotine patch routine and carry a bottle of water with you. Whenever you're itching for a cigarette, just touch the patch and tell yourself you've already got it, then drink a few swigs of water. You'd be surprised how easy it is to beat this way.

The hardest part is not becoming complacent and eventually starting again. nod

Good luck!!!!

Do they also have a more healthy outlook on lung cancer, heart disease and emphyzema? lol

Yeah for some reason the nicotine actually mimics the feeling of oxygen but not the function of it in our brain cells. That's why people panic when we quit because our brain is trying to tell us we aren't getting enough oxygen because it's confusing the lack of nicotine with a lack of oxygen. It's so bizarre. Knowing that fact actually helped me quit!!!

I have never smoked, and I know that telling people it's bad for them, it will kill them, it makes them stink, etc., generally only pisses them off.

I would think that if a smoker really wanted to be convinced to quit, visiting the cancer ward at a hospital and seeing what cancer does to you ought to be beneficial.

I have seen cancer kill my mom and dad, both smokers. If you could see what it's like to take chemotherapy, to waste away over six or so months, to finally not be able to draw a breath but still live for four days, I just think smoking wouldn't be so hard to quit.

Good luck.

Can't we still have one every once in a while, at parties, at a bar, while having a drink with each other?

Fauxie

I think replacing it with an addiction to exercise isn't the worst thing in the world. smile That's the only way I can do these things, all or nothing, so I'm quitting both alcohol and cigarettes as of this morning. I drank 5 bottles of Singha last night and smoked 2 packs of cigarettes. I feel suitably shit right now. lol

2 hours in. This is easy. lol But seriously, I may actually succeed this time because I sincerely want to. My heart is actually in this. cool I'm going to be really anti-social though. I'm fed up with going out and drinking even when deep down I don't want to be there, just drinking along with everyone else because it's the done thing. I'm doing what I want to and my wife and I are so on the same page right now it's almost sickening.
