ARE YOU AFRAID OF DEATH???? There are two facts about the life process; we are born and we die. While we can't look forward to being born or perhaps have no memory of it...we can look forward to death as it is inevitable. So my question is, do you fear death? When you lose someone in your family does it make you think of your own mortality? How do you think those you leave behind will feel about you when you've passed?

I do not fear my own death But I am afraid of losing my family.

The only thing that makes me fear death is what it would do to a few people who really love and care for me. It would devastate them.
Other than that, I'm not afraid of my own death--just the methods employed that would lead to it (fire, drowning, disease, Madonna concerts, etc.)

Death? No.
Dying? Yes, a bit. Heck, I don't even like getting shots. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

When I was around 10-11 I was so afraid of death that in order for me to deal with it,I felt like I had to have some kind of control of it. I had come to the conclusion that people died at a certain age (I don't remember what the age was, probably 60),and I was always asking people that were close to me how old they were. I would then figure how much longer I had to have them in my life. At the time I did'nt take into account accidental death, illnesses, etc., I had focused solely on death by natural causes.
At this time I don't really think about dying. It's not a thought that I like to focus on. My only hope is that when it is time for me to go,I go in my sleep.I think that the only thing that would make me afraid,is if I knew it was going to hurt. wow....i've been trying to place my feelings and that sums it up. the suffering is what scares me. people should not have to suffer when they die or die not being able to speak and move their limbs.

In my case it could'nt have been prevented,it was just his (my uncle) time. Desiree, this is an interesting question to get at random. Did someone close to you recently die? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I vividly remember grasping the concept of death at about age five having watched an episode of Blakes 7 where this guy basically disappeared to dust.
I burst into tears and said repeatedly 'I don't want to die!!!!' Am I scared of death? Yup!! if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I am terrified of dying before I can fully raise my kids and see them get married etc. The thought of my mother in law helping my husband raise my kids scares the crap out of me (she just isn't right in the head and completely unmotivated).
I used to really be affraid of dying, once the invinciblity of youth died, somewhere around when my dad passed. THEN I found my faith again and I am comfortable with going to the other side but like many am affraid of how it will happen. Most fearfull of Cancer, a car or motorcycle accident and fire. LIVE4LUV

yeah, I don't wanna die...I know I'm going to...it still isn't something I'm totally comfortable with or embrace...
I just lost someone very dear this week...since then, I've thought about my own mortality constantly... [Edited 9/18/09 20:03pm]

I'm not afraid of dying but dying horribly/painfully scares the shit outta me...
my greatest nightmare is being trapped somewhere and being scalded to death... Thanks but no thanks!! I'm also not fond of drowning, being a sailor and whatnot... A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

No. I see it for what it is. A cycle. Can't do anything about it. My only hope is that I go peacefully.
I'm more afraid of what my family would go through after I'm gone.
