Up until about a year ago, I had a laserdisc player connected to my TV because I had some Prince and Sheila E. stuff. But then I converted them to DVD. I've still got the player, but now it's packed in my closet.
I've got a turntable and a VCR.

Newer does not mean better.
To be honest, most current home entertainment devices make me laugh with the outlandish claims the manufacturers make about them. There's more capacity available for digital storage media, but that is about the only real advancement in such matters during this decade. Turning everything digital certainly has not been a terribly good move in overall - in fact I don't even know where people got the idea that "analog" signalled outdated, whereas "digital" means something that is supposedly more modern. It was always considered the cheaper option during the decades, until I guess they managed to brainwash the entire civilization about its supposed benefits. As the manufacturers have been able to cut back on production and all other costs on all fronts, the situation isn't terribly good at the moment.

on my main setup i still have a high end pioneer laserdisc player connected to my hi def pioneer 50" plasma, along with pioneer dvd player, xbox360+hd-dvd player, PS3 with bluray, modded xbox running xbmc, sega dreamcast and home theatre pc setup, all connected to my yamaha amp for 5.1 sound to a pretty good mordaunt short speaker system. my dj turntables are also connected to the amp along with a sony minidisc player and my keyboard workstation. there isn't space for a VCR but i have two of them
in the second setup i have a 32" LCD with dvd player, modded xbox running xmbc, minidisc, turntable, high end sony vcr, sony laserdisc, PVR (like tivo), dvd recorder, a couple of desktop pc's, netbook and laptop, all connecting to the seperate amp supplying a second 5.1 output via seperate speakers none of the speaker setups are the small crappy all in one systems, and all the pcs are networked throughout via ethernet, with wifi for the iphone and netbooks/laptops if required i also have another pile of seperates i don't use, cyrus amp, cd recorder, more minidisc recorders, you name it. i'm pretty well covered with both modern and old technology, but that's my main interest and hobby

I have a cassette player, and I still have my Flashdance soundtrack that I got in 1983. It still sounds so good my friends can't believe it's not a CD

I still have 2 VCRs that I tape my TV shows on, although, ahem, I sometimes watch them on the internets. In fact, I am taping the 2-hour season premiere of Heroes tonight on VCR.
As well, I still carry CDs around and play them in my car. I do have a DVD player in my computer. I still have not purchased a stand-alone DVD player or a compact DVD player (for trips). I watch a ton of DVD movies on my computer laying around in my bedroom/computer room. I also don't have an iPhone or an iPod. I don't even have a flat screen for my computer or as my television set. I still have a boatload of cassettes and vinyl - mainly Prince - still stashed away in my closet. In time I will upgrade. Soon. ... [Edited 9/21/09 10:06am]
