~The Truth

Listening to "The Truth," from "Crystal Ball," 2day...

The Lyrics,
"Got to tell the truth y'all." "Everybody's got the right to love...Everybody's got the right to lie...The choice you make ain't no piece of cake, it ain't no .....piece of pie."

Gotta love this!

I think it was Dianne Cannon that I once heard say my very feelings on this subject of truth...Something along these lines...
If U live a life with an honest approach...(a whole hearted shot at what U mean) Your life will be full of who U are.

We are what we say at the end of the day... cool

In my life I have lied over small things, yet a lie is still a lie. As we get older we should try not to do that.

...when we lie...and we all have...We live in the shadow of who we really are.

...I have lied to avoid long conversations that the other person wouldn't conprehend anyway...although I should have tried to get them to understand. Sometimes I have felt that the other person wasn't worth opening up my heart. Still that's no excuse...from now on I will just say, I don't feel like sharing the whole story with U at this time...possibly in the future.

What is your personal truth about anything? Why have U lied? Prince also sings of half truths in the song, "Eye hate U." Why would U tell just half the story?
cool

Having said that he says he is JW, don't they call it "the truth"? If so, case closed.

I'll tell you who I lied to, if you want to call it that. I total abusive maniac I met on a date, I finally decide to try dating and I pick the total nutter. I lied to him and said I had a lovely conversation, but I wasn't interested in pursuing it any further (that wasn't a lie), but in the back of my mind I knew I had to because he is abusive, so I was protecting myself. Some lies are worth it, it got me out of a tricky situation. I'm no fool. But as a general rule I can't stand lies. Within words there can be many interpretations.

This is why I really don't like to hang out in general discussion because I'm subjected to a few members that don't play the conversation game very well.

As far as quoting Prince's lyrics go...Prince sings in the song...

"Everybody has the right to love...Everybody has the right to lie." The choice U make ain't no piece of cake, it ain't no.....piece of pie."

Thought provoking lyrics that lead U to question your own behavior in different circumstances. Not everybody can be your best friend that U tell everything to. This is just an example based on my past experiences...I rarely go into a bar. If a guy pulls up a chair next to me at a bar, and a drink later wants to know my deepest sexual fantasy...I'm either gonna tell him it's none of his business, or I'm gonna say something about Prince. cool

The pie is the choice U make...It's the part of your pride

I understand. I hate lies as well, however, when U think of the expression..."Ask me no questions, I'll tell U no lies." That can be one person's way of protecting the way U open up to somebody."

For example, If I was to date Prince...I would tell him up front....I don't wanna know anything until you are ready to share it with me. I don't want to break into somebody's heart and draw blood. I want a relationship to unfold naturally.

When U have a friendship U can approach it this way honestly knowing that U can't find out everything about a person in a month anyway. It takes takes years to get to know a person, and it takes forever to keep discovering them.

Some interminglings just aren't worth anything but cut and dry answers...for whatever reason. cool

I apologize if it seemed like I was taking a cheap shot at you in my original post.

My comment is about people who base their staunch beliefs about Prince's personality and life experiences solely on his song lyrics, and quote them as if they are truth!

In P:M&M, there could be a discussion about whether he's a misogynist or chauvinist (citing well-documented aspects of his life as the basis for that discussion), and such a person's response will be, "But he wrote 'Adore!' You don't know what you're talking about!" Or they'll quote some random lyric like, "I'm blinded by the daisies in your yard" as proof of his super sensitivity and devotion to gender equality.

I'd appreciate it if you could explain why people believe Prince's lyrics are "Gospel truth" and quote them as such when speculating about his life. These tend to be the same types of people who adamantly insist "Sister" was *not* a true song. lol

This topic seems perfectly pertinent: As has been pointed out, Prince hardly seems devoted to truth. When questioned at fairly pivotal points of his life, he has demonstrated a track record for not speaking honestly.

I think the point is with quoting lyrics is that they can either be script to fit a song as if a writer would write fiction. At the same time, Prince is bringing statements out of the well of his heart.

Whether or not something Prince has said in a song is wholly true at the moment we are in, doesn't mean that Prince didn't feel it whole heartedly at the time he wrote the lyric.

Anyway...Prince lyrics are Prince lyrics. I suppose only Prince's closest friends really know his personal life. cool

Sometimes, I mean often the truth hurts so I Lie
Lying saves...
Arguments
Embarrassing situations
Confrontations
Your job,
Friendship....etc

So to me it's just a song ...Life is too complex, and you cannot live your life and base your actions on a song
Even a Prince song!
Otherwise we’d all be robots
And that is the Truth!!

personally, i believe strongly that Prince has been widely misquoted here. the real lyrics are "Everybody's got the right to love...Everybody's got the right to lie...The choice you make ain't no piece of cake, it ain't no .....piece of Pi."

so a piece, or a fraction, of 3.14. or a piece of the circumference. between two spokes of a wheel maybe. spokes, plural of spoke, past tense of speak. so choice is no piece of speak - i.e., choose not to speak to everybody. or about everybody. or don't tell people where the cake is, or that it was left out in the rain. lie about never getting that recipe again, because actually, your cousin has a copy of it.

i think he's calling Donna Summer a liar. or her cousin. not really sure.

This makes an amazing amount of sense!!!! Is this the reason why when I look in the fridge the Pie is gone? Donna Summer's cousin took it?

And what might even make more of your hypothesis....I did see her cousin on a bicycle the other day and it DID have spokes....but one was missing. Is this a visual metaphor for "cake", or at least a slice thereof?

hmmm

ah, but is it a missing spoke or one bigger piece of cake? could be an allusion to the oligarchical tendencies of our modern society. Donna Summer's cousin may be an avowed Antoinettian - cake for all, but the biggest piece for me? hmmm
