I'd rather watch tennis than any sport other than football. You couldn't pay me to watch baseball. Anyway, the scoring is simple. The first point is 15, then 30, then 40, then game. If the players are tied at 40, it's called deuce and one player has to win 2 straight from that point to win the game. Each set (group of games) goes to 6 and you must win by 2. If the players are tied at 5-all they play a tiebreak (every point counts as 1 and you have to get to 7 and win by 2). You have to win 2 out of 3 sets to win the match. That sounds extremely complicated, but you'd pick it up easily. Thanks! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. You're welcome! BTW, I meant they play a tiebreak if tied at 6-all. Oops.

Inexcusable, but she's been a great champion before and should be able to rise above this.
Hey, maybe this can be the impetus to get her and the other sex-screamers to stop with the screeching on every shot!

I do too! Anyone that thinks baseball is boring to watch ought to keep score one time. You'll see just how much goes on every single pitch.

Serena fined, more punishment possible
NEW YORK – Serena Williams faces an anxious wait to see if she is to be banned from future Grand Slam tournaments following her controversial outburst at the U.S. Open. Williams was levied with a $10,000 fine by the U.S. Open for unsportsmanlike conduct on Sunday for her foul-mouthed tirade at a line judge the night before, as she slumped to a semifinals defeat to Kim Clijsters. The fine was the maximum possible at this stage. An additional $500 fine for racket abuse was also imposed by tournament referee Brian Earley, but those on-site punishments could be just the tip of the iceberg for the world No. 2. A further investigation by the Grand Slam Committee, as first reported by Yahoo! Sports on Saturday night, has already begun and will prompt serious concern from Williams and her supporters. The committee has the authority to strip Williams of her entire $350,000 prize purse for this tournament, plus hand down a ban for future Slams starting with the 2010 Australian Open. However, she is expected to be allowed to compete in Monday’s women’s doubles final alongside sister Venus. A Grand Slam Committee administrator will first determine whether Serena Williams’ actions warrant consideration as a “major offense” – a near certainty given the nature of her comments toward the official. It is likely that she would be charged with “aggravated behavior” for conduct that was “flagrant and particularly injurious to the success of a Grand Slam, or is singularly egregious,” according to the Grand Slam rule book. Williams released a statement on Sunday evening claiming her actions had highlighted her intensity for the game. “Last night everyone could truly see the passion I have for my job,” she said. “Now that I have had time to gain my composure, I can see that while I don’t agree with the unfair line call, in the heat of battle I let my passion and emotion get the better of me and as a result handled the situation poorly.” Williams has won 11 Grand Slam titles and is the defending champion at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

They've punished Serena enough. From what I saw, the footfault call was incorrect, and it was total bullshit to make a call like that at that time anyway.
Let her pay the fine, and let's move on. WAIT! As a condition, make her stop with all the sex screams on every shot!

Let her pay the fine, and let's move on. WAIT! As a condition, make her stop with all the sex screams on every shot! The foot fault has absolutely nothing to do with it. EVERY player has had calls they don't agree with, & occasionally @ crucial moments. That's sport, it happens. But not every player threatens to shove a 'fucking' tennis ball down an offical's throat. She behaved like a rabid animal. Hopefully she gets a ban to think about her actions. She was hardly remorseful in her press conference or in her most recent statement, simply saying that she "handled the situation poorly". I'll give her one thing, she has a gift for understatement. In the end all she got was a chicken feed $10,500 fine, and a ONE point penalty. That's all! She just happened to be match point down. She wasn't defaulted. An example needs to be made of her, that this type of behaviour has no place in tennis. Not only for other pro players, but for junior and club players looking on at their heroes. Tennis has been far too tolerant of bad behaviour. It needs to make a stand. [Edited 9/13/09 21:27pm]

Sometimes people have bad days and are cranky and mouth off without thinking. I know everyone else wants to act all perfect but I'm going to admit to being a human being, and a human being with a quick temper, and that would probably happen to me. I know us Black women can be intimidating (people at my job say they are scurred of me all the time....)
Maybe she really was in a ill mood since it is the anniversary of her sister Yetunde's death (Sept. 14, 2003 her sister was shot-this was easily Googleable plus I remembered they had just played something that year when she was killed.) My sister's death anniversary is 9-15-2006 and I have been seriously fighting the blues and trying not to be snappish but it is hard. Anyway watching that linewoman scurry as Serena walked toward her was crazy. Like the woman really believed Serena was going to flip her ass on national TV and shove a tennis ball up there and kill her. And she ain't the first person to have a mental, especially in tennis. It appeared to me that she composed herself afterward and moved on. I'm sure she even shocked herself.

That could've been a factor in her short fuse and overreaction.

You obviously are just reaching for some dumb shit to say, again, as usual.

Aww c'mon, some of ya'll are acting like there hasn't been a day before Serena cursing out that judge that people haven't been unsportmanslike. Why is it unexcusable for her? Because she's a woman? Because it's tennis? Why? She's human, she made a mistake, get over it already. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

She's just showing him she's got what it takes to beat him at his own game! My Legacy

She was way out of line for that, but these are pretty intense situations, even for a champion like her.
We think she should be used to it by now, but it's her whole life. Huge pressure both physical & mental. I am amazed athletes can keep their composure as much as they do. They have to walk the line of being totally pumped and yet still following the rules. But there's no real excuse for what she did! She fucked up. My Legacy
