I was working as an assistant trainer in a gym - walked in - tossed down my bag and looked up at the TV ~ then noticed the 2 head trainers just staring at the TV and that the gym was empty ( which was weird that time of the morning )
We closed the gym and watched the news unfold - after 2 hrs I drove to the schools and checked on my kids then went back to the gym picked up the kids @ 3:30 - went home did chores and cooked dinner- did soccer practices and then homework, baths and then resumed "watching"

Biology class in high school.
One of the saddest days i've ever lived through. My teachers were crying, 80 % of the people in my school cell phones didnt have service. They wouldn't let us go home becuase the trains weren't working. And there were still planes flying around outside so they were afraid to let us go out. So the principal had the security guards lock all the doors in case we tried to leave. And told us that we might have to spend the night in school. Now thats where shit hit the fan because there was no way I was trying to spend the night in school. No. People were in the hallways crying and just losing their minds. Everybody just wanted to go home. One of my friends managed to slip out of the school and went to the train station. The trains were working they were just extremely slow. So he came back and told us. Nobody stayed the night in school. We left. Some people that lived in Brooklyn just walked across the bridge and went home. And the ones who were afraid to go across the bridge, just waited for the trains whenever they came. I didnt go to school the next few days but when I went back it was even worse. A few of my friends lost family members. ![]()

I was at work in the Empire State Building. From my window I saw smoke coming from the WTC wondering wtf was going on. Alarms went off in the ESB and we had to evacuate. I was in a crowd of folks standing on 33rd & 5th watching the Towers burn and eventually collapse.

There is a couple that run a little grocery store here, and they are from Afghanistan, and they had big American flags on the windows of there store. I think they really feared that they would be seen as the enemy after those events happened. [Edited 9/10/09 20:59pm] There was a little man who use to take a daily walk in front of my home like clockwork, he always wore a turbin. After 9/11, literally the next day...he started putting a baseball cap over his turbin. I really felt bad for him, as I think he must have felt fear.

I was in my dorm room at school getting ready for my class when I saw it on the television. I called my dad (he was terminally ill and passed about a week and a half after that) and he was talking about how terrible it was and that he hoped that it wouldn't start a war. I remember them showing people in New York who were covered by all the debrie and they were all on cell phones trying to contact loved ones or telling loved ones about what they witnessed first hand. It was so sad. Then they cancelled classes for the rest of the day...I can't remember what I did for the rest of that day. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I was getting ready to go to work and was shutting off my radio when I heard the DJ's say that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought that it was just one of those Cessna or commuter planes, but when I got to work I found out that it was a huge commercial jet which flew into one of the twin towers. Then I heard that another jet had flown into the second tower, and the third plane had flown into the Pentagon. It was at this point that I nearly freaked out, thinking that we were under attack. I tried to work that day, but mny heart wasn't in it. Then some dufus called in a bomb threat in our office, and everyone was sent home for the day. I called my sister back home to make sure everyone was okay.
Then I watched the replays of the twin towerts collapsing, and I felt sick to my stomach. After seeing some local news indicating that blood baks would be needing blood donations to help any possible survivors, I went to my local blood bank to donate blood, and everyone else who was there was doing it for the same reason. I had to wait eight hours to donate blood, but I was in no hurry.

I had been laid off the Friday before so I was just waking up when my mom ran in the room and told me I had to see what was on TV. I could never imagine what I would sit and watch that day. It was the most horrifying and sad day, I just remember crying and telling my mom I couldn't believe people were jumping to their deaths. Then the buildings fell. Horror of all horrors. when you thought it couldn't get worse, it did.

I was at a broadcasting company where there were naturally large screen televisions. Someone said, "an aeroplane has just crashed into the world centre." We watched it & then the second plane crashed into tower 2. It was quite surreal. Like watching a movie. Everyone just stood around watching in disbelief.
And funny enough that very early morning at 5:00am , our favourite club burnt down to the ground with the dj's vinyl collection going along with it. It was just such a weird day. Went to a party that Saturday and just couldn't dance, didn't feel right. I was right across the street at the financial center and saw the whole thing. It was something I will never forget. I can't imagine what it was like to have been inside the towers. The police told everyone to move along and clear the area and they were right. As I walked up the west side highway, people started screaming as one of the towers collapesd.

I was ready to go to work, in NYC. My friend called to say that the Williamsburgh Bridge was closed, due to a fire. So I turned on the TV to see if it was in the news. My eyes could not believe what I saw. At first it felt like some disaster movie, to be honest. I had to speak to myself out loud. "This is really happening." That's when the 2nd plane hit. I was numb... & couldn't cry about its horror for 3mths. There was a sense of lost, as if I knew the victims. They were civilians. Who went to work. And never came home. All those hearts stopped & bodies turned to ashes... Oh my God!!!! For the 2nd time in my life I felt hatred. I wanted to be young again, just long enough to enlist, hunt & kill Osama. This was why I couldn't cry until I saw the sister of one of the victims ice skating in her brother's memory, at Rockefeller center. As she glided on that ice, I began to cry. I cried on two other occasions since then. When that the American flag was placed on a strecher and carried to the ambulance on the day when all recovery at the gravesite (aka Ground Zero) were stopped. And in 2006 when I finally paid my respects to the fallen, at the WTC gravesite. Going back to work on the 41st floor of a 53rd St. building was no easy task. Fear filled thoughts of other planes crashing into other NYC skyscrapers grabbed a hold of me for several days. I do realise that this is why I became so hate filled toward Bin Laden. Because he (and whoever else) made me feel like I could be one of those innocent victims of September 11, 2001. They aimed at civilians (in a financial district), not soldiers. I was in 5th grade. I remember people started leaving early around 10am. Our class went on as normal, until lunch when all of the teachers had a meeting with the principal. Apparently there was a message from the superintendent about not turning on TVs or discussing the matter, I think only high schools could. They weren't allowed to tell us anything, but my little "highly gifted" class couldn't stop speculating. We probed our teacher and all she would say is "something very bad has happened in the world, your parents will talk to you later".
More and more students were getting picked up by their parents and barely half my class was left. Around 12pm my mom came and picked me up from school and I knew something weird was going on because she could never leave work early for anything. She was deeply torn and teary eyed the whole day, still having close ties to NY and being a 30-year native. She eventually told me what took place on the car ride home but my 10-year old self didn't really understand. I remember it feeling incredibly eerie when we went to the grocery store to get food. We watched cartoons for the rest of the day because my mom couldn't bare to see the news. I didn't really find out all that had happened until the next day. Kinda strange, kinda awesome.

I had gotten laid off from work two months earlier so I was lying in bed listening to Howard Stern on the radio and he broke the news to me. I turned on NY1 News on the TV and watched the coverage on mute while continuing to listen to Howard's broadcast for the rest of the morning.
My former office was downtown near Wall Street so if my magazine hadn't folded, I would have been right there in the middle of that catastrophe.

I'm in SF and on that day, I woke up about 15 minutes before the alarm went off, so I turned on the walkman to listen to the news. That's when I heard the announcement about the first plane. I sat up and turned on the tv to watch the coverage. As everything unfolded for the next hour, I decided to get up to go to work knowing good and well that it wasn't happening; but I didn't want to sit in front of the tv all day freaking out and thinking it's the end of the world. Of course when I got there, somebody said that the office was closed for the day. On my way home I noticed the traffic was really heavy in one direction around the city as folks were trying to go back home or avoid the bridges. There was fear that a plane was coming to SF to hit the Golden Gate Bridge. I stayed above ground and took the bus home, because I thought something was going to happen underground on BART.
