Did u see it? All the guy had 2 do was take a knee and he is running and fighting 4 an extra yard in a game that hsi team basically had wrapped up? Something smells very fishy about that play and the outcome of that game.

That was 100% on the player. He was in the endzone and started to take a knee and then just ran out of the endzone.
Once he was stopped he wouldn't just go down and be done, he acted as if they had to score a TD. If he'd gone down, they could've just ran out the clock with a first down.

Why would a coach have told him to run the kick back? It wouldn't have mattered if they had the ball at the 20 or the 32.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

The Giants showed the rest of the league how to slow Brady down. You have to bring the heat on that mfer. It helps to have the quality pass rushers the Giants have.

LeBron James criticizes Browns' Braylon Edwards

BEREA, Ohio -- LeBron James called Cleveland Browns receiver Braylon Edwards "childish" for allegedly punching James' friend early Monday morning outside of a Cleveland night club.

James said Edwards punched Edward Givens, a friend of James' and a promoter with a Cleveland marketing firm who was working outside the club around 2:30 a.m. ET.

"I've never crossed paths with Braylon before, but it seems like there's a little jealousy going on with Braylon and me and my friends. I have no idea why," the Cavaliers superstar said after practice. "I've never said anything to Braylon at all. But for him to do that is very childish. My friend is 130 pounds. Seriously. It's like hitting one of my kids. It doesn't make sense."

Edwards was not available for comment Monday as the Browns regrouped following their 23-20 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. He did post a message on his Twitter account -- OfficialBraylon -- at 5:25 p.m., offering praise to James.

"I have no issue with LeBron," Edwards tweeted. "I respect and admire him."

James says he was home when the fight occurred, but got a call from Givens telling him about it at 7 a.m. Monday.

Edwards' manager issued a statement, hoping to soothe any perceived rivalry between two of Cleveland's biggest sports stars.

"Braylon has nothing but the highest respect for LeBron James as an athlete and person," Hayes Grooms said.

Browns coach Eric Mangini said he has spoken with Edwards about the alleged fight.

"I know there is an incident that has been reported with Braylon Edwards, it's something that I am aware of. It is something that I spoke with Braylon about and personal conduct is very important to me. I always want our players to put themselves in the most positive positions. This is something I will continue to gather information on."

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported that a 28-year-old man accused Edwards of punching him in the face following an argument. The man said Edwards hit him with a closed fist. He said he suffered a black eye and cut and was treated at a hospital.

Edwards' name did not appear in a police report. He was not arrested and there are no charges pending against him.

Edwards was not in Cleveland's locker room during the portion open to the media.

Givens told the Plain Dealer for a story on its Web site that he was outside greeting people when Edwards approached him.

"Braylon comes up and started saying things, degrading me," Givens said. "He said if it wasn't for LeBron [James] or the Four Horsemen [James' friends and business partners], I wouldn't have what I have, nor would I be able to get girls. Everyone knows Braylon has a problem with LeBron.

"So I had to speak up for myself. The conversation started to escalate. As some of his teammates started to pull him back, he punched me. As long as I've known Braylon, I've allowed him and his friends to come into our events free of charge. Whatever jealousy he has with LeBron, he felt he needed to take it out on me."

Edwards did not catch a pass in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to Cincinnati. It was the first time in 62 career games Edwards did not have at least one reception.

Goodell: Cable discipline still possible

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says he plans to talk to Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable about a training-camp incident that resulted in a former assistant coach accusing Cable of breaking his jaw while assaulting him.

According to FoxSports.com, Goodell will consider discipline for Cable if warranted.

"This is not getting pushed under the rug," Goodell told the Web site.

The Raiders visit the New York Giants on Sunday. Since the NFL's headquarters are located in New York, it could present an opportunity for Goodell and Cable to meet.

"I don't know anything about that development," Cable said after Sunday's 29-6 loss to the host Houston Texans.

Randy Hanson said to investigators that he was struck by Cable during the Aug. 5 incident, resulting in the broken jaw, his lawyer has told the NFL Network.

Cable has said that "nothing happened," however.

"When all the facts come out, everything will be fine," Cable said.

Hanson's lawyer, John McGuinn, called it a "textbook case of felony assault," according to the NFL Network.

The Napa, Calif., police have finished their investigation into the allegations and forwarded the case to the district attorney's office.

Commander Andy Lewis said Monday the case was sent to the DA's office "very recently" and that the police had no further comment.

Hanson, who McGuinn said has been told to stay away from the team's facility, was interviewed for more than an hour in California by a Napa Valley detective and turned over medical records which detailed his fractured jaw, according to the lawyer.

"Randy answered the detective's questions, but we have no idea whether charges will be coming," McGuinn said, according to NFL Network. "That will strictly be determined by the police and the DA's office. We have no input. He just answered questions."

Jon Gruden off to rocky start in Monday Night Football booth

Shutdown Corner Tue Oct 06, 2009 4:32 pm EDT

Jon Gruden off to rocky start in Monday Night Football booth
By Chris Chase

I miss Tony Kornheiser on Monday Night Football.

Those are words I never thought I'd write, but four weeks of listening to his replacement, Jon Gruden, has made me long for the days of the awkward comments, bad timing and non sequiturs that defined Kornheiser's three-year tenure in the MNF booth.

It's not that Gruden is worse than Kornheiser, because he isn't. Obviously Gruden knows a ton about football -- more than Kornheiser, or myself, or you could ever dream of knowing -- but he isn't yet able to channel his vast knowledge of the game into something palatable for a mass TV audience. At times he can be too wonky and pepper his monologues with so much jargon that it leaves the most knowledgeable of fans scratching their heads. At other points Gruden dumbs down his comments to such a degree that he's left speaking completely in cliche and trite hyperbole.

Here's an exmple of the latter from last night's Packers-Vikings game:

Jared Allen(notes) is having a career night. Earlier he just shows sheer relentlessness. His factor grade is off the charts. The man will not quit. He beats you with his stamina, his conditioning. He plays with great hands. But that motor never stops.

That's scintillating, insightful stuff.

Unlike Cris Collinsworth, Troy Aikman or Tim Ryan (my favorite NFL analysts), Gruden rarely says anything that good NFL fans haven't already noticed themselves. Sometimes he comes close (like when mentioning a team's zone blocking schemes or calling out defensive formations), but even when he does that he still bogs himself down with those tired platitudes.

None of this should come as a surprise, of course, since Gruden has been announcing games for exactly a month. ESPN thrust him into the most high-profile of jobs with next-to-no prior experience. A complete lack of preparation never stops television networks making announcing hires, even though it's a preposterous concept when you really think about it. Would an NFL team hire a coach with no experience? (Other than the Bucs, who replaced Gruden with a guy less qualified for that job than Gruden is for his.)

As I wrote in May when Gruden's hiring was announced:

Just because somebody is good at football doesn't mean they're qualified to talk about it on television. They're two different skill-sets. Newspapers don't hire athletes to write about sports because it's accepted that writing isn't easy. Bad writing is also instantly recognizable.

But, for some reason, television networks assume that clearly, accurately, cleverly and insightfully describing the action in a sporting event and disseminating that information to viewers of varying knowledge levels is so easy that somebody like Jon Gruden can dive right in without any problem.

It's still very early in Gruden's broadcasting career and each of the problems I've mentioned can be corrected upon and improved. (Although we're stuck with his gratin' Midwestern accent and annoyin' habit of droppin' "G"s.) But therein lies another issue: Will we even get to see the fruits of Gruden's broadcasting labors?

Nobody expects Gruden to stay in the booth for long. Most people have him pegged for an NFL (Washington, Dallas) or college (Notre Dame) job in 2010 or, at the latest, 2011. By the time Gruden improves (if he even does), he'll likely be on his way out the door.

Back to the inevitable Kornheiser-Gruden comparisons. On last night's live blog MJD said he'd rather listen to Gruden sing for three hours rather than have to endure another season of Kornheiser. I understand his point. My feeling, though, is that Kornheiser was hired to play a role. ESPN wanted him to be the jester of the MNF broadcast and, like him or not, that's what he did. The network hired Jon Gruden to be a top-notch analyst. Through one month of the season, he's far from one.

Hanson: My life was threatened by Cable

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – When Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable told his assistants after a sloppy Aug. 4 training-camp practice that he planned to meet privately that night with the team’s defensive backs, Randy Hanson was sure how things would play out.

“You know what’s gonna happen there,” Hanson, a defensive assistant who had worked closely with the team’s secondary, predicted to a small group of fellow staff members. “Tom’s gonna come out of the meeting and say I’m the problem, that I’m the one confusing them and blame it all on me.”

Hanson was right: Later that night, Cable informed him that the Raiders’ cornerbacks and safeties had pegged him as “the problem,” exacerbating the tension that Hanson says had been festering between the two coaches since January, when Hanson was hired by owner Al Davis before Cable had been offered a permanent head-coaching role.

What Hanson says he never saw coming was an alleged violent attack by Cable the following morning that left him with a fractured jaw and a polluted relationship with the franchise he has loved since childhood.

“From my blindside, Tom Cable threw me from my chair and into a piece of furniture that a lamp sat upon,” Hanson told Yahoo! Sports Friday during an extensive interview at a Bay Area restaurant. “He was screaming, ‘I’ll f——- kill you! I’ll f——- kill you!’ And I have no reason to believe he wouldn’t have killed me if they hadn’t pulled him away.

“If my head would’ve hit a different way, I might be dead right now.”

In his first public comments since the Aug. 5 incident that took place in a meeting room at the Marriott-Napa Valley, Hanson repeated the version of events that he gave to a Napa Police Department detective late last month. According to a source close to the investigation, three witnesses – Raiders defensive coordinator John Marshall, defensive backs coach Lionel Washington and assistant defensive backs coach Willie Brown – also provided statements to police investigators which corroborated Hanson’s account of the incident.
