Just moved and as my pc is no where near the router and the pc does'nt have a wireless thing but the router does. so whats the best dongle usb thing I can use to connectto the tinternet. was told running a cable for more than 6 meters slows down your connection or is this an old wives tale?

router is bt home hub

pc is xp

If your router is indeed wireless, then get a wireless USB device. One by Netgear, Linksys, or Belkin will do, and they're relatively inexpensive. You'll have to know the name and possible password (make it require one when you're finding all of this out) to your network to connect to it once you've got the USB device going.

There's NO need in using a cable if you don't need to, esp if they're in separate rooms or opposite sides of a room.

Something like this or this would be fine. My mom has been using a cheapy no-name brand one from Newegg for over a year and it's worked perfectly though.

Personally i prefer utp instead of wireless. Don't like all that radiation around my head.

prefer the idea of the cable so as long as the cable go via the network card it should be ok?

But mayby you you just need a cat5 or cat5e cable. they are much cheaper.
It depends on the specs of your router and network interface

I think I have one of them around in a box some where well its blue lol

In theory it should not make any difference as long as the dongle and the hub are speaking the same language.
