Sneaky, actually. itunes 9.0 has the ability to make certain changes to your application line up, and some other nifty-ish things....which require the iPod 3.1 os update... at least that's my guess. That really sucks they did that.

I mean... The iPods don't even have an expansion card slot, do they? It's obvious that they want their customers to buy a bigger-capacity model when they fill their Nanos; rather than a $15.00 SD Card or whatever. I hate Apple! I hate that they stopped The Beatles' Apple Corps. company from using the singular word "Apple" as a trademark. Seeing "Apple Corps." on the new Beatles products just isn't the same. iPods are so popular because they are fantastic I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it

Well I went ahead and bought a 160gb classic half a year ago because I really didn't think they would bring back that storage size.
All I can say is... that was an extra half a year of my life that I got to enjoy my iPod I really want to get an iPhone 3GS or 3GSX soon

All I can say is... that was an extra half a year of my life that I got to enjoy my iPod I really want to get an iPhone 3GS or 3GSX soon I think it will 2 years before the iPhone can catch up to the 160 gig file size for the iPod Classic. Apples lack of attention to improving the classic makes me think it's certainly going to be discontinued. And I love the click wheel classic design--it's one of the reasons I opted for the iPod Nano over the iPod touch. I should have just gone with the Ipod classic. My hunch is in 2 years, everything will be a touch other than the iPod shuffle. My assumption is the new flash memory will finally start to catchup in capacity...well, hard drives will always be ahead, but they're so unsexy now to techno geeks cause of their size limitations and the fact they break down, that it will be all about flash soon. I really really really hope they don't do away with the current nano design. I like it the way it is.

Honestly I'm suprised they bothered to update the iPods at all given their downward sales trend.

I think it's all related to the economy and this Christmas's shopping season. Update the ipods just enough to claim they were updated, but keep the prices as low as possible to have a successful year. Next year, assuming the economy keeps picking up, introduce the real changes--especially involving increased capacity.

They should allow people who bought their nanos in 2008-2009 to upgrade them [Edited 9/14/09 11:34am] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
