To all writers...

How do you write your novel/book ?

Do you follow a plan ?

Do you work every day ?

How do you give "life" to your characters ?

Do you think there must be several stories in one to make it more interesting ?

Did you wrote a whole novel/book already ?

Thanks for sharing,

Virginie

Well, about following the voice within : I have so many voices inside I can hear it in "surround"...

I don't have any muse.

I have a plan but difficulties to stick with it, especially when i speak about the principal character, who's life is looking more and more like mine...

Plus I have the feeling if I go on speaking my truth, the book will never b edited and/or people r going to think I'm nuts...

*what to do, what to do ?*

And - I write one hour pêr night when baby's asleep, even if it's only three sentences I can spill this day...

change the story slightly...just a little bit...tweak shitt a bit...if your the main protagnoist then just make it a man, or a boy, or whatever..or change places and jobs. to make it mor e exciting...Henry Miller once said it is important to write about _YOurself

see that s a sure sign that your life should be intertwined with the story youre writing...

use your experiences butt dont forget to add a bit more spice to it by using your imagination

whatchu think about this ?

Wh celebrity has the BEST hair job=?

Is it Mel Gibsen ?

John Travolter is kinda aight butt its obvious now that hes got a mesh hair piece

Prince? probly so...then agin it might be real and no HT whatsoever

Mathew McConnorhey comes to mind...dude´s mugshot was very telling...bald spots and receding hairline all too clear to see...now that mofo look like he in his teens...WTF?
Nic Cage looks fucked up.

Why does Nic Cage look fucked up despite all the hairjobs done and how come Jon Travolter need a hairpeice when both got mad loot? They rich butt cant efford a good HT butt the average Joe can ? And whaasuup w/ Joe Byden ? Joe looks wierd to say the least. He s got money,no ?

Best HT i d say is PRince...or maybe Arnie and Sly Stallone.

your pick ?

Well, I do like hair when it looks natural. Not over done, like baby hair or fan , except on long hair.

I'm a woman, but I have zillion things to think before I start to care about how I look ?

The fact that I am a parisan doesn't help me much being creative lol

But I'll had some descriptions about my hometown, yes.

How do you write your novel/book ?

I don't start out thinking of it as a novel or a book. I just think of it as a story. If it ends up being 200+ pages, that's fantastic. If it only ends up being 20 pages and I've said everything I want to say, that's fine too. Don't pressure yourself. Just get your idea out of your head and on paper.

Do you follow a plan ?

I keep an outline which is the "skeleton" of the story, and I'll scribble ideas on napkins or I'll text myself ideas so I don't forget them later, and then I'll transcribe these scribbles onto my outline, which is kind of like adding organs and muscle to my skeleton. Meanwhile, I write my story and I consult my outline when I need to remember what direction to take.

Do you work every day ?

It's hard to work every day. I would if I could. I try to work on weekends as much as I can. On a good weekend I will escape all my distractions and hide in a coffee shop with my laptop all day.

How do you give "life" to your characters ?

Try making character profile sheets like this:

http://www.suspense.net/profile.htm

They're helpful and they're also pretty fun to fill out.

Do you think there must be several stories in one to make it more interesting ?

Not if it mucks up the story you're trying to tell. That's the most important thing. Get the important stuff out of your head and onto the paper first. Then see if there's room to add more levels to your story.

Did you wrote a whole novel/book already ?

I keep trying. I have done National Novel Writing Month a few times, and I did finish one novel, but it was AWWWFUL. lol I started another novel in the past year that I've gotten about 100 pages into, and I'm working on another related idea now. I've actually FINISHED quite a few short stories. lol

Hope this helps!

i think it depends on the writer. for me, my writing is top secret until i decide it's ready for someone to see. then i expect them to get out a red pen and hack it up and give me their best critique. for me, to have someone read my work while i'm writing is like letting someone try a piece of cake while it's still baking...though there's nothing wrong with letting someone sample the batter before it goes in the oven, i suppose...

i'm very self-conscious and presentational about sharing my writing, even with people i know and trust. i want to make sure there aren't big gaping problems with the writing and that the spelling and grammar are at least somewhat tolerable. you may be less inhibited about letting someone see your raw work-in-progress. it's all about what you're comfortable doing.

Actually there's only one I read every two or three days what I've done : it helps me to hear if it is still accurate and fits to the story.

If I'd let my own point of view rule it, the novel would never b written cuz I tend to censor myself and this is not good. I'd better write it all and then mark it in a different color to skip it later.

Keep a diary on all your friends' activities for at least six months.

At around the two-month mark, stir things up a little by anomynously spreading outrageous lies about your friends. It's what the internet was invented for!

After three months, sleep with each of your friends' wives/husbands/sons/daughters/pets etcetera.

Once five months have passed, steal one of your friends cars. Plant marijuana in the dashboard and a loaded gun under the drivers' seat. Ram the car into the nearest convenience store shop-front window and run away into the night, laughing. Don't forget to wear a mask - and call the police from a public telephone (giving a good description of the car owner's face).

After six months, type all the fabulous dirt into Microsoft Word. Simply change your friends' names by pressing CTRL+F, choosing the "Replace All" option.

And... Voila! A Bestseller!!!

I don't follow a plan I just write first off whatever comes to mind. no, no no, I think more than one angle of a story has to be there to make it not be boring.

does poetry count?

I create a character first then work around him/her. I don't write everyday. Every story has sub plots and every character has a background and it comes together for the bigger picture. I prefer to write short stories and scripts.

Are you writing? Congrats! woot! We can never have enough story tellers.

Being in France makes it quite difficult. There's nothing like this (that I know about). I just remember some courses I took when I was much yonnger and didn't know I'de have a story to tell !

I have 9 characters actually. I first started it as a novel/script but it gets longer and I didn't tell all what I have to say.

Yes, I started about one week ago a story I have in mind for years. I hope to see it in the stores and to see it transalted in english !!!

I think poetry has just more to do with the inspiration of the moment... Sure it counts ! I used to write some lyrics but writing on the same thing for several days is another kind of exercice.

It is. I'm in the process of writing ( well, attempting) to write a film. Hard. I think a good thing is to set yourself a timetable but I can't LOL.
