Anyone here suffer from Hypothyroidism? I am thinking of going to get checked for it,because a few of my other relatives have thyroid issues. Lately I have been having a real hard to time with memory, and my memory has always been amazing,so it's been drivng me a little crazy. Out of curiousity tonight I looked up to see what the effects of hypothyroidism are,and memory difficulties, and a few others that relate to me were listed.
So does anyone have this problem? Did you also have memory issue before you got checked? Since finding out,and getting the proper medications has your memory improved? All help is appreciated! [Edited 9/7/09 23:09pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

I hope you're ok I don't think it's anything serious, unless it's left untreated. This is what I found. Hypothyroidism Since hypothyroidism usually develops slowly, and the early complaints are frequently minor, vague and diffuse in nature, it is not surprising that the diagnosis is often overlooked. However, the physical changes that accompany the illness are characteristic: dry, rough skin; pale and puffy complexion; loss of hair; change in voice; decreased appetite, etc. Psychological symptoms are common and well manifested by the time the patient seeks medical advice. Not infrequently, psychological disturbances are the main complaints that bring hypothyroid patients to the psychiatrist first: marked slowing of all mental processes progressive loss of initiative and interest memory difficulties thinking is easily muddled general intellectual deterioration depression with paranoid flavour organic psychosis In severe, untreated cases, dementia may be the ultimate outcome. This underscores the importance of early detection and treatment Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

progressive loss of initiative and interest memory difficulties depression marked slowing of all mental processes (I think I can claim this one to,the other day my nephew got mad,and hit the vacuum cleaner, and when I told him that he was not going to be hitting it,I could'nt think of what it was called) I just feel really stupid,I have a hard time concentrating,I am constantly questioning my spelling, which I have always been excellent at. I need to be able to study for a new job,and I don't seem to absorb anything that I work on. Irritating as hell.
