***The WINE Thread*** Do you like wine?
How often do you drink wine? Do you prefer red/white/rosé wine? What's the best wine in your opinion? Which country does the best wine lately? Why has wine so much more STYLE than beer, vodka and water? How much do you really love/need it? Why? I have just opened a holy bottle of 1982 Blaufränkisch from northern Burgenland. LAWD! Now gimme some Lovesexy and then I'll be able to fully enjoy every sip of it. Where are you, wine lovers/experts?!? Santé!

I love red wine; can drink rosé occasionally with meals; but detest white wine.
My current favourite red wine is Chilean Carménère. I've never had a bad bottle. It's like a Cabernet, but smoother. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...arménère If you're in the U.K., ASDA import a Fair Trade Carménère which is yummylicious. Beer gives you gas. [Edited 9/4/09 12:15pm]

I usually drink white wines, but I honestly don't know a whole lot about them. Nk-Mip Cellars does make a decent Chardonnay though. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I don't drink rosé and never drink white wine. When I'm out, not looking to chill and enjoy a glass of wine, I do like white spritzer as well, but that doesn't have anything to do with drinking wine the way we should do it, so...
Unfortunately I'm not from the UK, but it does sound very tasty indeed! I used to drink loads of beer and never wine But then I somehow turned into a better human being and stopped drinking beer and now wine is my life!

I love it!
I'm really not an expert at all... I'm pretty happy with any colour and almost any brand My favourite at the moment is Blossom Hill White Zinfandel. Yum.

Have you guys ever heard of Austrian wine? It's the world's best at the moment, winning one award after another and this year's harvest should be even better!

I'm certainly no aficionado, but I do enjoy wines. I generally prefer dryer reds, but my favorite is actually a sweeter white: a Johannesburg Riesling. The best I've ever had was a '90 from Whitehall Lane, Napa Valley.
None of my friends or family members have a real interest in wine, so I rarely buy entire bottles. I rather just order a glass or two with dinner whenever I go out. And I don't think wines have any superior style or class to other drinks. Wine folk are just snobs and think the sun rises and sets on them. Beers can be enjoyed with a great deal of cultured appreciation as can any other food or drink. I think what it all boils down to is learning to appreciate the novelty of a drink and experimenting with what foods, etc. best bring out its character... as opposed to just drinking it to taste sugar and get sloshed. I love Verget - a French rosé. Light and crisp - good fruit. Verget is an interesting outfit - they don't grow grapes, themselves. They just do the blending and bottling. And they do a damn fine job.
I also love Spanish whites. They tend to have a lot of citrus notes, which I like. No chardonnay, please - I am so over oak. When I go for a red, I tend to go Spanish there, as well. Castano and Hécula Monastrell are two of my favorite. Not expensive - and very yummy. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Somehow reminds of those newly rich Italians with greasy, grey hair, who don't have a clue about anything, but drink "Chardonny"" for the sake of it.
