Do Laptop "coolers" help ???

Just curious all you computer gurus ...

I have always seen these things and thought "what a crock" ... the laptop already has a fan etc ...

but then again ... there are times my laptop gets my crotch burnin ...

and i have heard that they really run hot hot hot ... so it is concievable that they need additional cooling ??? whats your opinion ??? confused neutral

A micro chips works best when they are cold. if it get's too hot nice effects do happen.

mayby you can read the temperature in you bios. and look in your manual how much is allowed. if the numbers are too high then you should consider to take extra cooling.

ur better off just sitting the laptop on a solid book or something, the main reason laptops overheat is because the vents are being blocked.

Found a program called fanspeed
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info and show hard disk temperatures. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature). SpeedFan can access digital temperature sensors and can change fan speeds accordingly, thus reducing noise. SpeedFan can find almost any hardware monitor chip connected to the 2-wire SMBus (System Management Bus (trademark belonging to SMIF, Inc.), a subset of the I2C protocol) and works fine with Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP and Windows Vista. It works with Windows 64 bit too.
