KIDNEY STONES - OUCH!!!!

Been away for a while as I have suffered kidney stones and had to go into hospital. Nearly lost my left kidney. Had a small operation to put in a stent (which is giving me trouble as well). They could not take out the stone but pushed it back into the kidney!!! I have to go back in 4 to 6 weeks and have the stent taken out and they are either going to operate or blast the kidney stone.

I am on 3 tablets - paracetamol 2 x 500mg three times a day
Declofenac 1 to 2 tablets 3 x a day
Codeine 1 to 2 tablets when needed.

I am rattling with these tablets and feel very drugged up. Any one else experience this? I am still in pain and can't wait to get rid of the stone.

Also the tablets are giving me terrible nightmares - is it the tablets or the anaesthetic? I don't know!!

(this was all free on the NHS which is quite unbelievable - Ambulance - 7 days in hospital - operation - follow ups - scans - blood tests etc. I think that America could benefit from this - even though people think it is a white elephant - the NHS literally saved me and I could not do with it)

First of all, let me say that I am glad to see you here, sorry to hear about your kidney stones.
I have never had them myself, though I have been told that I am prone to them since my dad's entire family have suffered with them.
I have had some kidney problems since birth so it would not surprise me if they appear one day.
My ex had them and he said they are the most painful thing he has ever experienced.
He had one forming, moving for 9 months and it finally passed through. He was so proud, he brought it home to show me.
lol

I must say that he did not receive a lot of help from the dr's in the states for them.
They pretty much told him to drink lots of fluids and if it got really painful they would give him some pain meds.

I hope you feel better soon. hug

On a side note, we have been discussing health care in the states and other countries over in P&R.
I find it interesting coming from the US to the UK and experiencing the national health care first hand.
It amazes me that Americans are up in arms against nationalized medicine.

Oh and I was reading up on Nettle tea last night (for pregnancy reasons) and they mentioned that it helps with kidney & adrenal functions. They said that it can be helpful for kidney stone sufferers.

Thank you for your hug at this moment in time. I am in a lot of pain because of the stent that they have put in and I have an infection. Coupled with that a temperature. Just fed up at the moment because I am not the most patient of people.

Having to drink a lot and take some powerful painkillers. Cannot get the antibiotics until tomorrow so I hope that they work quickly.

I have noticed through the threads that you are pregnant - wonderful - I love it all - pregnancies and babies - when you see that baby you wil be awestruck thinking that you made that life and are totally responsible for it. It is a powerful love for a child as well, totally different from any other of love -

Well done - can't wait for the baby to be born and see pictures

Aww I am sorry to hear that you are still suffering. I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly.

Hang in there. I have heard that kidney stones are the most painful things to have so take it easy.
I have been reading about Nettle Tea and if they are allowing you tea, maybe you can try some of that.
It is supposed to help with kidneys and liver function.
I wish there was more advice or words of wisdom I could share.
My brain is mush at the moment though.

Yep, we are pregnant. Only about 4 weeks to go now.
Midwife just left and all is well.
I am very excited and nervous!
I will be posting pics when he comes out for sure.

Take care!
hug
