The other thing about Kat that bothered me a bit recently is that in going coockoo for coco puffs (which in itself is not bad, because comics often suffer from psychosis), he went through a phase of publicly attacking other comics. One thing about comedians is that no matter what race, gender, color, or comedic creed, they have bond of loyalty to each other collectively (and to the craft) that practically rivals a masonic order. When he kind of lost it and started going in on Steve Harvey and others last year to annoint himself the King of Comedy it was like dude betrayed The Brotherhood:

He had a lot of folks in the comedy community giving him the side eye...but he said he was retiring from stand-up after this show, so maybe he doesn't care shrug
[Edited 9/1/09 18:41pm]

I was always under the impression that his "attack" on other comedians was staged, especially the one with Steve Harvey, to sell tickets and to create this atmosphere of a "battle". Pretty much like the WWE. I don't think he really meant to admonish his fellow comedians! Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know...

Nah. He definitely burned bridges in his community of fellow comedians and has gone on record saying as much. Keep in mind this was also during the time when he kept wildin out in public, having nekkid public breakdowns, getting arrested alot, etc. That's why I keep referring to that period as him being 'couckoo for cocoa puffs'; his public behavior was so erratic that he seemed imbalanced...anyhoo,for your viewing pleasure:

Steve Harvey was respectful then Katt went this route

"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

DC- He's a hit or miss for me. Sometimes funny but can be a borefest
Chris Rock- Hilarious! and real!
Kat Williams- Is very funny! His stand-ups always get me rolling! But lately he hasn't been as funny as he used to.

True Katt was out of line going after Steve but he was right when he said Steve's not an original king of comedy. That title belongs to these folk:

Red Foxx
Richard Pryor
Bill Cosby
Dick Gregory
Moms Mabley
Paul Mooney
Franklin Ajaye

Well, he should have talked about Hughley, Ced and B Mac as they all (did) call themselves "Kings of Comedy." Steve looks up to all those comics you just named, he knows his place in the comedy world.

But in all fairness to Harvey and the other folks on the bill for that Kings of Comedy tour, they've always said publicly that they know they aren't the kings of comedy, and that the very names you just just mentioned are. What they recognize and respectfully maintain is that the only reason why they've achieved what they have is because of the barriers broken down by Foxx, Cosby,Mooney, Pryor, Mabley and the rest. Williams could fare well to swallow the pill of respect and humility once in a while. The title of that movie was simply meant to be reflective of a certain time in their showbiz popularity, not meant to denigrate what the elders did for them by setting the foundation in the world of comedy. Do you honestly believe that Spike Lee, one of our most astute social commentators and pop cultural historians was really trying to say that these guys were the kings of comedy with that film? Come on now, that was simply a catch phrase to market one of his (rare) lighthearted projects to a commercial audience, and to capture a singular moment in time in these mens' careers.

T-Pain. Steve may be all new and groovy up in the Lawd for these last couple years, but his temper is still hot enough for him to start swinging on folks. Katt's lil ass can make all the cracks he wants, and it's cool because when said as a joke they can be water under the bridge amongst comics. But his lil ass ain't hardly 'bout to come at big ass Steve Harvey like that. You know he prolly only come up to Steve bellybutton lol
