SO PETA HATES FAT PEOPLE????

Wasn't sure if a thread was started on this or not but uh...interesting topic anyway.

http://www.nowpublic.com/...ults-obese
So here is the original billboard that garnered some controversy and a reaction from the "fat"community. I didn't even know they had an official community. Why this only appeared in Jacksonville, FL I'm not sure. Maybe they have a lot of fat beach goers there. shrug

Peta replaced the ad with a less offensive and non-gender associated billboard. If you find it post it please. lol

So orgers...what do you think about this little controversy? Does Peta secretly hate fat women? I ask because as you can see, they didn't put a fat male on the billboard or even a fat child. The attitude seems to be that overweight women are the problem. Actually, I think Peta uses women most of the time in their ads which begs another question. Is PETA sexist?

Also, there is no guarantee that being a vegetarian will make you slim. I've seen plenty plump vegetarians. Also, being fat doesn't necessarily mean you are unhealthy. Perhaps PETA is becoming passe. What say you???

I was watching a debate between the Peta prez and this lady who was a rep or something for an organization of obese people. I think it aired on CNN a couple nights ago. Anyway, the overweight representative made a good point about it still being acceptable to hate on fat people, particularly fat women. What was interesting was she kept saying over and over things like "stop hating us" and "stop the hate."

Now, regardless of what your views on hate are, clearly PETA is trying to encourage vegetanarism (sp) but at the expense of fat people via their billboard ad. But is it really hate or is that the new buzz word to get people to stop doing something you don't like? I would think hate would be in the form of job or housing discrimination, slurs from people on the street, denying health insurance, inaccessibility to public places or flat out abusing and teasing someone who is overweight. confused

i think what they're doing just lends itself to the misconception that if you go vegetarian, you're going to end up starving yourself and become pale and emaciated. and that's just a bunch of crap. plus, there are lots of people in the world who are perfectly healthy, and are just BIG. i wish PETA would go away. they do more harm than good to the cause they claim to advocate.

PETA pretty much hates anyone who's not marching right on point with their agenda.
I'm firmly planted in denial

Their target audience for this campaign is women, so they put a woman on the billboard.

Women are more likely to be dieting and figure conscious than men, so grab their attention by implying that becoming veggie will help you be thin
If you will, so will I

And why "Save the Whales" comment. Why not just stick with lose the blubber. I mean whales eat fish and seals don't they? Whales are not vegetarians.

Did you know crazy ass Peta wanted Ben& Jerry's to use human breast milk in their ice cream instead of cow's milk? shake As if anyone would eat that and as if there were enough nursing women to feed their own babies yet alone grown ass dairy lovers. rolleyes ok...I officially can't stand Peta. confused

The PETA people are fucking nuts, and make a lifestyle out of offending every possible group on the planet under the guise of fighting for animal rights. Personally, I think they just get a kick out of annoying people, because God knows none of their ad campaigns have ever accomplished anything but preaching to the choir.

I'm a vegetarian and I can't stand PETA.

Although I'm vego out of respect for animals (every time I feel like eating meat I look at my cat to talk myself out of it) I still don't agree with their practices. Eating meat is everyone's choice, of course. They should try talking to people and education if they want people to stop, not radicalism.

Anyway, I'm sure the feelings mutual. Most fat people probably hate PETA too lol

Yes and they know that women worry more about being fat and spend more money on dieting, than men.

k.d. lang has gotten a bit chubby over the years.

I've met plenty of oversized veggies.

Having said that, I do think that vegetarianism is generally healthier than a diet containing meat. I just wouldn't become a vegetarian to lose weight.

I mean... Peanut Butter is not a slimming aid.

Seems to me vegetarians tend to eat a lot of nuts, pastas, fruits, carbonated beverages and non-dairy milk (rice and soy) which can contribute to weight gain because of the high sugar content. One thing about sugar is that it's a carbohydrate and I think that carbs, if not first used for energy, will get stored by the body and ultimately make you plump up.

confused I never liked PETA to begin with. But now, they can kiss the fattest most cottage cheesy part of my behind. I've seen more offensive things against fat people, though. This is borderline considering the fact that PETA does crap like this on the regular with other things. I wish they hadn't stooped to this level but what can you expect?

Besides, there are hundreds of other sides that promote vegetarianism without having to resort to silly crap like that. Minus 20 points for poopy PETA.

and how much you burn off. If everybody exercised regularly, you eat what you wanted.

What would Peta do if everyone were muscular because of eating meat and hitting the gym? Give us a "save the muscles for the ocean" ad? Fuck them soy nuts! hmph!
