I cocoon myself with 3 pillows. I have a memory foam that I actually put my head on. The pillows have to be soft. I can't sleep if I don't have pillows to hug.

I have a total of 4 pillows. Two are standard, and the other two are huge chenille covered pillows. I use 1 chenille pillow, and one standard pillow under my head,my dog has claimed the other chenille one as his. and the other standard is just on the other side of the bed. Are the memory foam ones any good? I think I need new pillows. [Edited 8/28/09 19:57pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

b. to all of you with more than 2 pillows--don't they get in the way, especially if you're already sharing a bed with someone? 2 of mine are strictly decoration & go w/ the comforter. So they're constantly on the bench @ the end of the bed. I sleep on my foam, he'd sleep on the 2 that matched the sheets...

Judging by the amount of people on here who have memory foam pillows, I'm guessing that they're pretty good. I have a super-expensive memory mattress (my big 'demand' when I fell pregnant with my youngest ) I really need some new pillows... I think I'll get some memory ones I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

Not the least bit, you can always toss them on the floor anyway. In fact it's the only way to comfortably sleep with your arm around the other person. That demands however that both are comfortable sleeping on their sides with the head tilted upwards quite considerably. Having the right type pillows helps too. Of course, I have no experience of how it would work out doing the same with the same person for years and years.
