Which had no indication who it was from. At first I thought it was an orger mailing me something.

Upon opening the envelope I found a letter from a Solicitor (lawyer). I opened up the letter which stated he was handling the estate of my Granny who died a few months ago.

In her Will my Granny had bequethed her wedding ring to me

I was very surprised as I was not expecting anything nor did that enter my mind.

Included with the letter was an envelope. Out came the ring.

I was shocked and upset and in disbelief that a part of it had been snipped. I found out later that the 2 people acting as Power of Attorney on behalf of my mother asked for the Jewellery so no one would steal anything. The nurse had snipped a bit of it so they could get it off her finger after she passed away. I guess no one bothered to use soap and water with a little patience I assume the snipped piece is long gone anyways.

I phoned my mother. She told me that Granny got married in 1937 and she had never taken it off even to be cleaned

I plan to take it to a Jeweller and get the missing part replaced and have the ring cleaned.

The Solicitor has asked I email him to confirm I received it which I shall do.

At the same time I am going to request a copy of her Will and her Death Certificate which is for geneological use (Family Tree documents).

Now I have the gold wedding band of my Paternal Grandmother and my Maternal Grandmother

but oh my goodness arent they lucky that you recieved it???? there would have been real problems if it got lost in the mail somehow! seems stupid to just send it out like that and you didnt even know that it was on the way

That's a very touching story. You're fortunate to have a tangible relic from your grandmother.
