English Grammar help!!! Sentence: I go swimming on Fridays.
I = subject Go = verb swimming = gerund on = prepresitions Fridays = object of preposition And this is in the 'simple present' tense, correct? Or is it simple continuous (progressive)? I think to be progressive it should stated "is going swimming", right? thanks

Anyways, I would appreciate an answer from our Finnish, Swedish or Dutch friends, cause their written English is far better than that of the UK, Australia, Canada, or the US.
thanks! [Edited 8/27/09 9:32am]

It still means I'm dealing with a sentence using the simple present tense, no? Talk 2 me girl. Tawk 2 meh.

I think "swimming" is a present participle here, not a gerund. And I believe "on Fridays" is an adverbial phrase.

I'm swimming would be a present participle but in Imago's case, it would be a dangling participle.

swimming can't be the past participle cause past participle would state "swam", right? I think 'go' is definitely the verb, and swimming is a Gerund. Because if you replaced the "go" with any other verb, like say "like", the sentence still remains true. I like swimming on Fridays. It makes it more apparent that 'swimming' is actually a transient verb (turned into a noun by the ing) and Gerund.... right? I'm so damned confused now. Where the hell is number23?

Just to make it worse: Do you want beef or chicken?
Is this present simple as well?

I'm going with Miranda. She's the only person on this thread who both speaks with confidence on the subject, and has large breasts.

Is this present simple as well? Of course it is. Present continuous would be "Are you wanting beef or chicken?" but that sounds weird...then again, there´s that Jesse Johnson song where he sings" I´m just wanting you girl". " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Always with a primary verb and another verb ending in -ing, the second is a gerund, as far as I am aware. (I may be wrong as rereading my sentence here I sound like Yoda. Grammar it is. Yes! "...and If all of this Love Talk ends with Prince getting married to someone other than me, all I would like to do is give Prince a life size Purple Fabric Cloud Guitar that I made from a vintage bedspread that I used as a Christmas Tree Skirt." I'd pull out my grammars but they're all still boxed up. Just ran to check where I thought they were but could only find a Korean grammar.
