The BMW Films starring Clive Owens Who remembers the series of BMW short films called The Hire starring Clive Owen??? This was pure marketing genius and the caliber of the directors, actors, and films was astounding since the short films were really glorified commercials. As far as I'm concerned, The Driver is the best character Clive Owen ever played and anything he's done in feature films pales in comparison to what he did in the BMW films. I can't believe BMW was able to get so many A-list directors and actors to participate in this. 
I love every one of these films for different reasons, they were a perfect combination of suspense, a charismatic actor, cool storylines, great car chases with lots of action. Even better than a lot of action movies. My absolute favorite film was Beat the Devil starring James Brown as himself and Gary Oldman as the Devil James sold his soul to. Fucking classic! 
Anyway here they are. Watch 'em and tell me what you think.

During his tailing of the wife, the Driver describes the right way to tail someone. with Forest Whitaker, Mickey Rourke, and Adriana Lima Directed by Wong Kar-wai Featured the BMW 3 Series and the Z3 roadster Star - This one is HILARIOUS!!! The Driver is chosen by a spoiled and shallow celebrity to drive her to a venue. Unbeknownst to her, her manager has actually hired the Driver to teach the celebrity a lesson. with Madonna Directed by Guy Ritchie Featured the BMW M5 Powder Keg The Driver is drafted by the UN to rescue a wounded war photographer named Harvey Jacobs from out of hostile territory. with Stellan Skarsgård and Lois Smith Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu Featured the BMW X5 Hostage The Driver is hired by the FBI to help defuse a hostage situation. with Maury Chaykin and Kathryn Morris Directed by John Woo Featured the BMW Z4 Ticker - This one was off the chain! 
The Driver drives a wounded diplomat, who carries a mysterious briefcase, while under helicopter attack. with Don Cheadle cameos by Ray Liotta, F. Murray Abraham, Robert Patrick, Clifton Powell and Dennis Haysbert as US agents. Directed by Joe Carnahan Featured the BMW Z4 Beat The Devil - Fucking HILARIOUS! I can't do the splits no more. I scare the kids.

Come to think of it, I recall seeing the Madonna clip somewhere and thinking, what is this?  It's pretty funny!

I had no idea there were an entire series.  They showed them on various cable channels like the Speed Network. I was really hoping it would lead to a feature length film. Even though I think The Transporter was a straight rip of these films, I would have rather seen Clive put that James Bond finesse on it.[Edited 8/28/09 14:13pm] | |

I work with someone who went out with Clive Owen - bunked up in the Hotel in the city here and had her wicked way with him for 4 days (room service the lot) she was his girlfriend but the relationship fizzled out - how the hell can it fizzle out - my tongue and lips would be stuck to his (leave the rest to your imagination!!!!)
She said that he was bloody good!!! It was in the days when he played Chancer or something like that. She goes all dreamy eyed at the thought of him - she has the photos to prove that she was his girlfriend as well....  "I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it"
