Wong Kar Wai Appreciation Thread

Is anybody on the org a fan of Wong Kar Wai?

I've just finished watching Days of Being Wild for the first time (god knows why, it's been on my shelf for months) and I really enjoyed it.

I think he's one of the best directors of the past thirty years for interpersonal drama, if not THE best.

For those who don't know him, his Wiki is http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ng_Kar_Wai

He's absolutely brilliant at using silence between scripted lines and the actions involved within those silences to convey the true meaning behind the spoken script. Characters often say one thing and then betray their true emotions through a hand gesture or a gaze or even a step.

He always uses the best talent from Hong Kong yet it was surprising to see his first English language film with Norah Jones, Jude Law, Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman, who were all brilliant.

After watching all the films I still say Happy Together is his best, although 2046 really does give it a run for its money.

Has anybody else seen his work? If not, I highly recommend checking them out. If so, do you love him or hate him? I think he polarises people.

Nothing beats the scene in Fallen Angels of Takeshi Kaneshiro riding the dead pig after breaking into the butcher's shop at night to run it. Brilliant.

I'm only familiar with In The Mood For Love, 2046 & My Blueberry Nights.
I guess I gotta dig deeper.

I don't think he's to everyone's taste but if you liked those ones you will love the others. nod

It's brilliant. metaphor thrown on top of metaphor. The layering is incredible, and yet again Chris Doyle is brilliant with the cinematography.

Takuya Kimura does a stand out performance too.
