I'm sure you know that it's not a matter of whether you're sexually active at the moment, but if you've been at all, and it was unprotected of course there's a risk.
Hopefully you will turn out negative and have nothing to worry about on that front. But, as odd as this is going to sound, a positive diagnosis is not the end of the world. While not without their side effects, there are effective treatments available today. It may not always be a picnic, but that can be said of many other conditions. I got the dreaded test result back in 97 and live a very full life.

I also have asthma could that be a problem that causing the low white blood cells????? i don't think. red blood cell count has more to do with the oxygen level in the blood. white blood cells are normally affected by having an infection of some form. Hi, I don't have anything to add at this point, but I just want to let you know I'll be sending positive thoughts your way. It's never a good feeling when waiting for test results. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

One more thing. I would probably try to not preoccupy myself with self-diagnosis. I've worked myself to near hysterics doing that once or twice...for no reason.
It's not helpful at all.

I think the doctor is ruling out all things possible at this point and it seems they usually start with the big ones..low white blood count can be SOOO many things and not all of them are super serious... waiting for results is always hard, i had to wait for mamogram results after a doctor told me that yes, he did feel that lump! So i understand... I know I had low white count b4 but i cant remember what it was from...great now im losing my mind! big hugs to you and keep in touch cuz talking with others who go thru similiar situations really does help!! ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

Hello Kano,
This came up in a google search Viral infections that disrupt bone marrow function
Congenital disorders characterized by diminished bone marrow function Cancer or other diseases that damage bone marrow Autoimmune disorders that destroy white blood cells or bone marrow cells Overwhelming infections that use up white blood cells faster than they can be produced Drugs that destroy white blood cells or damage bone marrow Specific causes of low white blood cell count include: Allergy, especially severe allergic reactions Aplastic anemia Drugs, such as antibiotics, diuretics and prednisone HIV/AIDS Histoplasmosis Hypersplenism, a premature destruction of blood cells by the spleen Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) Infectious diseases Kostmann's syndrome, a congenital disorder involving low neutrophil production Leukemia Lupus Myelodysplastic syndromes Myelofibrosis Myelokathexis, a congenital disorder involving failure of neutrophils to enter the bloodstream Other autoimmune disorders Other congenital disorders Parasitic diseases Radiation therapy Rheumatoid arthritis Vitamin deficiencies It can be any number of things, some of which are serious and some which are much less serious in nature. Knowledge is your friend here. You need to know exactly what is causing this in order to deal with it. If you put off diagnosis, it's just going to make whatever is causing it worse because non treatment isn't going to make it go away. I wish you all the best My sister's brother-in-law is tested for leukemia next week because of low white blood cell count . But like others already said: there are many possible reasons, so don't worry too much kano! My doctor advised me to get tested if I have MS even though it is not likely I got it. But they often just want to make sure to not miss anything. With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

The other good thing is. Even if you do have a blood disorder. It could be bad but it could mean just watching the counts and waiting or just taking some chemo orally. In other words, the treatment or Leukemia's has progressed very fast and some are terrible but some are really not that bad and you can live a long healthy life with some.
You will have to wait and see. I hope things work out. Thoughts and prayers are with you. I also know what it's like, I have higher than normal liver counts all the time and have to get blood taken every 3-6 months.

I'm sure the Doc is trying to eliminate Hiv by doing this test so that he will better know how to treat you if it is just a normal viral disease.
We all worry when we have this sort of test, but I;m praying that all will be ok and that it is just something minor Mean while look after those bahts 1 U.S. Dollar = 34 Bahts

Your white blood cells are high, not low, if you have an infection like a cold or something. Your body creates more and more, trying to fight it.
Low counts are from some sort of disorder, like the ones listed in an above post. Being on chemo for years, my white blood cells can get zapped out. They tell you to be real careful during this time...don't hang around in crowds or be around sick people because you can easily get sick. There are also medicines that you can take to help with your white blood cells if your body is just not making them for some reason. It's a self-injection type of drug. I forget the name of it.
