When you are watching a movie, does it annoy you when it is meant to be set in a particular city, say Boston in the USA, and yet the characters are having a cup of tea in a cafe overlooking the Yarra River in Melbourne Australia after having visited the Melbourne Museum?

No, because I don't know what Melbourne looks like...
However, some scenes for The Matrix were shot here in Oakland as was 75% of the movie Made in America (1993)... A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

Maybe the film company did not have enough money to go on location.
Some use a studio or other means to make it believable. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Some use a studio or other means to make it believable. There are cities that pay big money to have films shot on location too! Lot's of Hollywood money for the locals!! A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

didn't anyone else get annoyed in Transformers2 when they are in the Air and Space museum in Chantilly VA, and they open the hangar doors and they are in the boneyard in Tuscon AZ?

No but it will annoy me that the people who are living in NY, LA or elsewhere are talking with a German dialect . [Edited 8/20/09 0:05am] With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

But then I've never been. there I was saying "wow! Boston is so similar to Melbourne, that could almost be the Yarra River! But hang on a minute, isn't that Flinders Street Station, right there, see! Behind Nicholas Cage's head!!!" We rewound to the museum scene and the old tram with the sign that says Spencer St on the front of it is clearly visible in the museum scenes and the whale skeleton [Edited 8/20/09 2:23am]

Melbourne, you say? makes a change from every American film being shot in Vancouver, like the last 10-15 years... everyone's a fruit & nut case

YES! That is annoying...unless it is veeeery low budget. In which case I suppose I could try to suspend reality Really, really annoying though when a movie takes place in a non-English speaking country, but all the characters speak English! Yes, Im talking to you Memoirs of a Geisha If you will, so will I

No but it annoys me when they are making a film about Boston people they over accentuate the Boston accent!

it doesn't annoy me but it is kinda funny when it's supposed to be dutch people and they speak german (mainly in major hollywood productions) now german and dutch may sound similar to a person that doesn't speak neither but it always makes me laugh.

The only time it was really obvious to me was in Spider-Man 2 with a scene on an elevated crosstown subway train in Manhattan. Anyone that has been here knows there is no such thing.

That part where the kid looks through the little ass window and see the world burning was just !!!

It used to bother me as a kid watching CHiPs when they would be driving down PCH towards Malibu and suddenly be in downtown LA.
But I think there is also a sense of satisfaction to catching those flaws. It makes us feel knowledgeable, as if we know more than the average viewer (and maybe even the filmmaker). My Legacy
