Ebony and Jet serve a purpose
Many issues in the black community aren't covered in the mainstream news and when they are, they aren't always covered from a true black perspective. These magazines along with Essence give a glimpse into the community from the eyes of the community. "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

You clearly show a bias. a bias? hmm so not believing that you can take a whole race and try and guess what they are all thinking and minimise it into a magazine and tv station and not treating them all as individuals is bias? i really love taking all the bullshit youve been brought up with and turning it upside down on its head ''now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, a fanatical criminal''

Do you feel these stations that are for a target audience shouldn't be around?Having a product ,whatever it is,for a target audience is business 101.I'm going to assume you dont think Latina magazine should be around either BET isn't in the UK i know but we do have similar shows ''now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, a fanatical criminal''

Here's an example, the Oscar Grant incident was covered in mainstream news but from a distant perspective and some outlets practically brushed it off
Even with entertainers of color, many wouldn't get exposure in magazines like People, US Weekly, and such but Jet, Ebony, Essence, and other magazines give these performers a chance to get coverage and exposure. "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Issues such as the status of black colleges, the issues in the inner city and the black middle class, black entertainers who don't get alot of exposure in other magazines (People like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Samuel L Jackson, Luther Vandross, and others) and that you calling Ebony and Jet racist is really fucked up and disrespectful. They're dignified and respected publications and have been for over 40 years. In this country and I expect in the UK too, they have magazines that cater to different communities and nationalities: Ebony Jet Latina People Espanol (the spanish version of People that covers Latino entertainment and entertainers) Urban Latino Asian Women Magazine Asianna Shaddi (covers Middle Eastern) Italian Mens Vogue Henna (a UK Asian magazine) all these magazines have a purpose and they serve it. I understand you have disagreements but if you don't see what that purpose is and continue to ignore it, then none of us here can help you understand "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
