CALL OUT TO NERDS! I need help with internet connection!

I really don't wanna call the 800# and talk to computer voices tell me what to do before they forward me to a voice from india. I 'd rather just cut to the chase and ask the nerds directly.

I have a Windows xp netbook and it connects fine to our wired internet connection(i purpose the world calls it a internection form here on out...but I digress). However, when I connect that SAME wire to my MAC running OSX, No Go...don't work, no way no how...well at least not the wrong way or the wrong how. I tried copying the IP address that shows up ono the Windows netbook and using it in the Mac, but it's still A no go...ALL U NET WIZARDS...what should I do?

Where is this wire connected to? A router or the internet modem?

Did you do this?

Go to your system preferences icon (on your dock). If you don't have one do a spotlight search for "System Preferences" and launch it.

next, click this motherfucker below

then click the renew DHCP button next. That motherfucker should be all you need to do to get an IP addy from your router or cable modem.

Also you may want to log into your router/modem if the above doesn't work, and see if perhaps there's a restricted list for NIC addys.

First off....I appreciate how comprehensive U were

Second off...I don't know nerds used the word Motherfucker so often...hehehe

But I tried the DHCP thig...Didn't seem to work. Theres no router, but I didn't know I could access the modem. NEws to me.

BTW...the System prefrences ISN'T on my dock Mr. I know everything...I took it out to conserve space...I only access it thu my wittle bitty apple in the sky.

Your modem is going to be 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.0.1

But you just might have to ask your help desk what it is if those IP addys don't prompt you for a login.

Being that it's MAC, it could mean that your MAC is actually too good for the modem. Whatever you do, never ever blame the MAC.

I logged into the modem and there wasn't anything there for unallowable addresses or anything like that. Had a bunch of mac address and login info. The log info switches between "ready to pass packets" and "not currently active". I assume the latter happens when I am plugging it into the mac. Do U think my Ethernet acceptor thingy on My mac is faulty? U know..the actual plug?

fuck u AND fuck U...it was only a simple problem I was overlooking. Mac's aren't more expensive cuz they are crappier....Macs are simply superior machines. They have a better OS....better software. I have a Mac G3 from 1994 that when I connect it to the internet...still flys around and has a ball. Granted, it won't act to swiftly on LOTUSFLOWER.COM...but it has enuff ram to where the page still oads up and what not....it still runs OS 9. summin. Simply put....MACS R THE BOMB

I was only joking as well...but where does uncompatible come from....I have no problems with compatibility at all.

I think the problem I'm having is the piece of shit modem charter gave me...it keeps switching over to this non functioning ip address 5 minutes after it's connected....via pc OR Mac.

I'm sure they're out there, but PERSONALLY, I've never met someone who switched to a Mac and regretted it. They're just simply all around better.

EXCEPT maybe if u're one of those hard core online MMPRPG gammer people and U need some crazy tricked out machine to get an orgasmic gaming experience...but even then, there are Mac's out there that run faster than any PC on the market....they cost 3 grand or more...but it's your if U got the moolah...when I played Warcraft for the 2 mo's that I did...I never had ANY issues with connectivity. Mac's r just simply better machine's...it's not a matter of opinion...I'm letting U know. A mac with a smaller CPU and less ram will RUN CIRCLES around a heavier built Windows machine...it's fact.

edit: well I wasn't joking. I was being flip. I was thinking "forget y'all" but just "typed up tot he next level" for a tongue in cheek effect which I guess I didn't express correctly.
