Have You Ever Gone To A Fair?

Today I went to the local county fair that they have in here in town every year. It was a lot of fun: lots of great food, rides (which I didn't go on), stuff to buy, and cute animals to look at. It has been awhile since I've even been to a fair, and I had a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to going again next year. It's a nice way to get out of the house for awhile, and have some fun. They even had a camel that you could ride on, which I didn't do, but I might next year.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

We have a fair here every September (because of the whole Mexican Independence and stuff) but I have to say it gets old quickly. We always get the same shit. I think the last time I went was when I was 11 lol

I was in the fair; I was a 4-H member from the age of 9 until high school. Our county fair was one of the few in the state to have a midway with rides!! lol

You were a 4-H club member? That's cool. Did you enter an animal into a contest to be judged? Not to sound silly, but I'm not really sure what 4-H members do. doh! lol

Yes, I entered livestock (and actually won several trophies for having the best one). 4-H members work on projects throughout the year and the culmination of those are show and judged at the fair. Projects that were popular in my area were cooking/baking, sewing, horticulture, woodworking/refinishing old furniture, photography, and livestock (beef cattle, dairy cattle, hogs, sheep, horses, goats). Dogs, cats and rabbits were shown by the wimpy city kids, not the farm kids. You also had to submit a record book, which documented your project from the inception -- what were the goals you hoped to achieve -- to final product, and what you learned from the project.

The four "H"s are hands, health, heart, head. I still remember the 4H pledge by heart: I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world." geek

I went to the animal fair
The birds and the beasts were there
The big baboon
By the light of the moon
Was combing his auburn hair

The monkey he got drunk
And sat on the elephant's trunk
The elephant sneezed
And feel on his knees
And that was the end of the monk

giggle I guess I was more interested in seeing what food they had at the fair that I could eat. I'm a foodie. giggle But I definitely want to ride that camel next year.

Thanks for the explanation. I would love to enter livestock at a fair (since I'm an animal lover). I would prefer to do that, rather than the other things that you mentioned. That's great that you won several trophies for the best livestock. Which animal(s) did you enter?

rolleyes No, I hate sheep. They have greasy wool, and when you show them they bleat right in your face with their nasty, drooling mouths. We didn't raise sheep on the farm where I grew up. We had beef cattle and hogs.

I dislike fairs. I used to go to a county fair when I was younger, and there was just a bunch of junk. I also dislike the NY State Fair because it is mostly devoted to farmers, which I am not. I get dizzy on the rides.
