I've found that often the reason people split up (or fight) over money is because of how one person tends to spend it...they fight over the partner's gambling problem, or the XBox expenditures, or clothing, or indiscriminate use of the credit card. The other starts to question whether or not the other person really loves them, because the way that person spends money often jeopardizes the family. The person spending the money often gets defensive when confronted, and accuses the other of being too tight with the money.

Or sometimes, the problem is that the person who makes the most money is hoarding the money and doesn't allow anyone access to it without going through them first.
