Yet hunting (for sport) is huge in this country. I personally don't see the fun in it, but plenty of people do. However, like I said, I have no problem killing certain animals (spiders and insects among others) and even less of a problem eating plenty of dead animals.

And let me reiterate that I'm not condoning what Vick did. I just don't think it's the worst thing ever. Sue me. shrug

Yes, and hunting animals is legal in the USA. But torturing/killing animals for pleaure is associated with much worse things. One step away from serial killer status if you are electrocuting dogs, knocking dogs teeth out with a hammer..etc. for fun, thats just sick.

So you're OK with the killing, just not the torturing?

Yes, I lived in the country once. I do believe in thinning out the deer.

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to call bullshit on this. doody no no no! While I don;t approve of what Michael Vick did to those poor animals. the man was convicted for his crimes, served his time in jail, and lost all of his wealth because of it. He deserves to get a second chance at making a living and making amends for what he did. You act like this man is a serial killer; yet if he hadn't bred these dogs for dogfighting and tortured them, someone else would have, or these dogs would have been most likely abandoned and left as strays.

Having said that, I think that either President Obama should issue a full pardon for Michael Vick, Donte Stallworth, and Plaxico Burress, or get his Attorney General to issue an arrest warrant for Dick Cheney. Vick served his time for torturing and killing dogs in a dogfighting ring, Dante Stallworth served his time (however brief) for killing a guy while DUI, and Plaxico Burress is facing jail time for carrying an unlicensed weapon into the club and accidentally shooting himself. johnwoo Meanwhile, Dick Cheney is sitting free running his mouth off about how President Obama is leaving us open to be nuked by terrorists, yet he authorized the torture of innocent Iraqi civilians, threatened to send troops on our own people, leaked highly classified information for political purposes, and shot a guy in the face! Yet he hasn't been charged with anything to date. If tehres anyone who has acted like a thuggish criminal these past few years, it's ol' Dick.

BOOOOO! The animal killer doesn't deserve to EVER play for the NFL again. He should have been locked up for longer than what he was. Michael Vick SUCKS ASS.

Bullshit. He paid his debt to society, and has a right to earn a living. If an NFL team wants to sign him, that's their business. These PETA-types need to get off their moral high horse and STFU. Same with the Philly fans who say they'll burn their jerseys. Please. Winning cures everything.

He may have "done his time", but he's certainly not rehabilitated in any way. This guy hung dogs from trees and electrocuted them. WTF? He's a sociopath who shouldn't get paid millions of dollars.

rolleyes You can call it what you want but that's my opinion and I couldn't give a damn if you agree or not. So, you need to relax cuz you're doing a bit too much. How'd Dick Cheney get into this??? But for the record I hope there's a special place in Hell for his ass too. But that ain't got shit to do with what we're discussing here.

Where have I said he doesn't deserve a second a chance or that he hasn't paid his debt to society??? Exactly where did I call him a serial killer (but if you want to be technical he's been killing dogs himself for years so he might qualify since YOU brought it up)??? NOWHERE. In fact, if you've read the MANY posts I've had on this topic on various threads, some of which I've started, I've said that he's entitled to do just that and to move on with his career and his life.

However, just because one does the time it does not mean that they are not STILL a severely damaged individual for committing a barbaric act which IMO what he did qualifies OR absolved on a moral level for what he did. I deal with rescues every day and the damage wreaked on innocent animals by sick, selfish humans for their own enjoyment and profit. So save the drama for your mama cuz I see the harm that's done for no good reason. Just this week a puppy mill was busted in the Dallas area for having 600 dogs, many sick and dying in 100 degree heat. Those people are getting charged with a MISDEMEANOR count. So, in your eyes them paying a minimal fine would make them even Steven for subjecting God knows how many animals to years of misery and abuse?

What Vick did and what puppy mills do, is nothing like killing animals for food or even hunting animals. This is breeding and raising animals to keep them in filthy, miserable circumstances for the singular purpose of winning a bet when the animals rip each other apart. Is it equivalent to killing a person, no, I never said it was. But it's still some sick ass shit for someone to be involved in at the level he was. Vick's been breeding and fighting dogs since high school, so who knows how many dogs he actually killed.

And, if he doesn't do some serious work on himself and with rescue organizations, I hope that he has to endure what he did to those dogs everyday in the afterlife for eternity.

I'm glad the Lord forgives because I see pure lily white never did wrong humans never can....

All I hope is Michael Vick learned his lesson. I think he was very ignorant. There's a lot of ignorance in the world. But ignorance can be cured. Stupidity cannot.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense doesn't it Alex. You sign a qb to an
extension because you don't want him. Damn i wish an nfl team would
sign me to a lot of money because they don't want me.
lol
[Edited 8/14/09 9:04am]

rolleyes Yeah, cuz they had so many other options for a QB. They kept him because there's not really anyone better out there right now. That does not mean that they like OR respect him. If they had a really viable option they would replace him in a heartbeat. Enter, Michael Vick. Bringing Vick in is just another example of that lack of respect. They can stake their claim to Vick to see what he can do for cheap.

If Vick gets a chance to play, especially if it's due to McNabb's having a lackluster performance, and Vick shows any glimmer of still having his skills Donovan gonna be ridin' the pine once again instead of getting a chance to play through his difficulties like most other talented QB. He ain't gettin' the benefit of the doubt which he's earned.

The only "they" that counts is the owner, coach, and teammates. Especially
teammates. The players in that locker room know McNabb is the guy. If the
eagles were sold that McNabb wasn't the guy trust me they would have
got rid of him. They could have bought in Jeff Garcia who played well in
his absence a couple of years ago due to McNabb's season ending injury.
I'm still not following how bringing Vick in is a slap to McNabb's face
when it's been proven in this league you need a quality back up qb and
a stable of good running backs to keep your starter fresh and healthy
for the long haul.

Obviously to some people like yourself, winning a stupid football game is more important than an animal's life. You must not have any dogs. He has only "paid" his debt to society cause he can afford a high-priced lawyer (like OJ Simpson). So in reality, he, just like that asshole Donte Stallworth, hasn't paid SHIT. There are more important things in life than winning.

eek I hope not, because I will kill a spider in a heartbeat with a smile on my face. smile

In all seriousness, I certainly don't condone the torture of animals. I love eating some of them, though...

And no one other than PETA complains about that lol People should really get over it.

And I'm a member of PETA lol

RUMOR: Michael Vick has started directing a movie to tell his side of the story as to why he abused dogs. The trailer is up on youtube:

Wow. I had no idea he did that to the dogs. I still think it is more about how he grew up and the kinds of things he saw as a child, etc. Ghetto life kinda teaches kids to have no respect for humans, animals or anything else. Sad but true. There is probably not a lot he can do to bring attention to the issue, when the people doing the dog-fighting don't really care one way or the other about anything.

nod I agree. It's no longer the wayward kid and/or family here and there, it's a dysfunctionality, a pathology that's infected entire communities. Then we think kids are suppose to someway somehow figure out what's right and what's wrong. Values, principles, morales, and ethics don't come from the sky like a bolt of lightning, those values have to be taught, be seen in action, and reinforcred by adults. Still, one doesn't have to have been raised in the "ghetto" to be cruel or ruthless either. wink

For the life of me I don't see how anyone could take pleasure in torturing animals. At the sametime, some of those animal right activist strike me as the type of people who would save a cold, hunger, dog/animal lying in the street but if the saw a human being lying there, they'd step over them.

Oh please, spare me. I love these folks who put animals on the same level as humans, and they want Vick banned for life. rolleyes

Like Huey said, Vick paid a huge price for what he did. If Vick did this to a human, then yes, jail him for life. But he didn't, so all the loudmouth protesters should back off, stop posing for the media, and go live their lives. Believe me, if the Eagles go 13-3 and get to the Super Bowl, those fans who 'left' will be right in front of the TV watching the game.
