I could never understand why one group of people (any group) whom are discriminated against prejudge others who are discriminated against in one way or another. I find it very hypocritical and asinine.

I find misogyny mostly in some older men (50s and up), some women (self-hate issue) and some gay dudes (jealousy). Misogyny seems to have evolved from thinking women were less smart and somehow frail to thinking women are evil or something to be mocked and made fun of.

Take the political arena for example. Palin and Clinton got pretty dogged and not in the way their male counterparts did. There is still an under-representation of women in politics overall. Look at health care, many women are still not given the same level of medical treatment and attention that men are. Why are there so many health ads and meds geared toward men but not women? Women suffer many of the same ailments like heart disease, cancer, lung diseases and sexual dysfunctions. Then of course there the violence against women issue. Women are targeted for no other reason than that they are women. That hasn't decreased at all. I don't think that we have yet reached a global frame of mind that sees the value in women. With that said, if you are female and you haven't yet experienced misogyny, just wait...it's coming. confused

And as a matter of fact the man who seemed to have it in for me and ended up fired was gay. All he did was walk around and talk about women being nasty and having yeast infections confused The only woman I heard him talk about in a positive light was his mother. I never thought about it. I just assumed he was an unhappy person who needed to take it out on somebody. I mainly felt bad for him instead of disliking him.

I had a guy like that in my writing class a few years back and he used to say the same type shit. Talking about vaginas being ugly and having yeast infections. I told him "you came out of a vagina and every dude you ever fantasized about came out of a vagina so vaginas must be doing right by your fucking ass." He never said shit about women again, at least not in my presence.

Fauxie

I cook maybe once or twice a week and I haven't washed my clothes or ironed in maybe 5 years. My wife does those things, as is expected of her. It felt weird at first but I've gotten used to it. I think if we moved out into a nicer place with a nicer kitchen I'd probably do a lot more cooking lol and might do washing and ironing (though I doubt it). I know I'm not talking hate here, but this is just the Thai way, i.e. very traditional.

falloff It don't get any gayer than that. that's too bad about no mother's milk though. Doctor's say babies not breast fed are more prone to childhood illnesses.

See if she doesn't mind doing it and you are not ordering her to do it and there are no negative repercussions if she ups and decides to quit then I see no problem at all.

She doesn't mind doing it. She sees it as something she needs to be good at in order to be a good wife. If she didn't do those things for me her mother would get on her back. lol It's just ingrained in her. While her father was out with his mistresses he never thought about leaving his main wife precisely because she was the one who was so good at cooking and cleaning. She would ultimately be the keeper when he could no longer run around after other women. disbelief

Yeah. sigh The younger generation of Thais isn't quite so accepting of that whole mistresses thing though. The men just have a 'gik' instead (fuck buddy), but they no longer buy them cars or houses right next door to the home with the first wife. neutral Well, some still might.

I think if we move out of this house and get a nice place to live I'd do more cooking for one thing. It'd be good for us to have that separation and for Mon to be away from some of the old-fashioned expectations and pressures. She's cool with it, but I am a little uncomfortable with it sometimes. It makes me dependent and complacent. We have responsibilities here though. shrug

They're still together though, where so many marriages end up in divorce. It's alien to me, the whole way it was accepted for the guy to have mistresses, but they stayed together through everything. smile

I see some stuff with my girlfriend. Mostly stuff like, she pays for something and the clerk thanks me, or we talk to a mechanic about her car, and they talk to me.

Or sometimes it comes from women, who are not nice to her but are nice to me. Sort of how I only see men as a competition.

I hate to have to do it, but if I'm at, say, the hardware store with a male friend I'll abandon him before I talk to an employee about whatever it was I needed because I know that way I'll actually be spoken to. Of course, not having a guy with me also leaves me subject to condescending tones and careful over-explanations.

Guss I can't win. confused

It can be unnerving when a guy talks to me expecting that I understand how a car works, though. lol

We get that. My wife takes care of all the money we spend on food and drink so she nearly always pays at restaurants. Often they'll take the money from her and then bring the change back to me.

On another note, for about a week after my foot surgery a few years ago I was wheelchair bound. That was a trip. I don't know if I've ever had so many people pointedly NOT look at me, or address whoever's with me instead, or talk like I'm not there....
