Some replies in here surprise me. A total lack of control of a public situation shouldn't force one to resort to abuse of power. Especially if you're the one that decided to bear the child, which means the responibility is always there. You can also pick the child up and walk out.

The first four years of a child's life are crucial. I know this is this just a small clip, but think about it, if this happens in public then what happens in private?
[Edited 8/14/09 6:45am]

A few folk I think also made this point.
But I don't think we can assume that this child is treated any "worse" in private from this clip.
What if this was an outburst this parent has never dealt with before and she felt at a loss? It might not have ever happened before, or might never again. shrug Or it may happen all the time. We just can't tell from that.

Some people have no issues disciplining their children regardless of setting.
Unfortunately, a lot of parents now a days do feel reservation to even speak to their child too harshly in public because we live in a HYPER aware/sensitive society where everyone is quick to point a finger and stamp a scarlet A (Abuse) on a parent's forehead, usually without knowing all the facts.

I'm not saying there's not situations where it is obvious and a child is in need of help. Of course there are.

I don't think the child is treated any worse in private. I think its just a case of the parent getting fed up. I don't think leashes are appropriate because I feel like it's a substitute for discipline. When I tell my kids its time to go-its time to go. They are well aware of what happens if they attempt any of that mess so I don't need a leash. its silly.

My mom could take me anywhere. Any store, any restaurant, theater, anywhere.
And it's not like I got beat all the time either. I can count on a hand the number of times I got spanked/smacked on the side of the leg/hand. I just knew there were consequences and knew better.
And no I did NOT live in constant fear (I can feel that point coming lol) of my mother.

PS. She did give me one good beatdown with a pair of Reeboks she'd bought me later in my early teens, but I totally had that shit coming. I'd skipped school for a MONTH and was acting mess. lol

Well said and I understand the points made. I guess we can say we don't know what happens in public or private since this is simply very short footage. Thus one can only speculate right? So yeah...

I guess it can go on and on. To me there are other means in my opinion to remain true to the responsibility of being the parent.

I waan't even the nicest child sometimes, but I turned out pretty good right and didn't even get dragged like that. lol

There's no question she could've picked the kid up. (though if that kid was in a rage and hitting/biting, her reaction could've been worse eek ).
I'm not sticking up for her. I just think we can't say one way or the other.

Ouch at the Reeboks. lol

This is when they first came out and they were the HOT shoe. I had BEGGED AND BEGGED till she bought them for me. I wanted them for SCHOOL, which I was of course skipping.

For as long as I live, I'll never get "You want Reeboks???! Here's your Reeboks!!!"mad out of my mind. lol

It looks to me like he was trying to hold onto the leash to take some pressure off his neck..
I really couldn't see enough to judge, but I think it should be investigated.
Mom needs some parenting classes.

it does appear he's holding the leash....but...we don't know if it's really to take pressure off..
IF it's indeed a dog leash...around his neck then yeah..that's really bad.
