It doesn't appear to by hurt. This is the fourth one I have found this summer, but this is the first that has been right outside my door. There is a lady that live not to far from me that takes care of birds,so I will probably be taking this one to her as well. We have birds like you mentioned, they will come onto the porch with the cat sitting there, and snatch the cat food out of the food bowl. I figure they are either real brave or not to bright. Too cute. Did you take that pic? Was it easy to pick him up? I find that if you extend your finger or hand slowly they will jump on it and stay there a bit as long as they don't feel threatened. I had one in my possession but his leg was indeed broken. I tried to lay him on a thick tree branch but he fell off anyway. He got so scared that his heart appeared to beat really fast and it was scary to watch so I left him be. that's good you have a neighbor who cares for birds.

This reminds me of one time I was staying at an ex-girlfriends house.
Her cat bought a bird in and it seemed a bit beat up, but not beyond repair. The ex got it off the cat and put it in a box, so that in the morning she could take it to someone who could make it better. The box had to be kept in the room where we were sleeping, so that her cat didn't get the bird again. About 2am, it woke me up fluttering around in the box and making plenty of noise. I figured it must be feeling better, so I opened the window and let it out. The bird flew into the next door neighbours garden, where it landed. Then, less than 2 seconds later, it got pounced on by the neighbours cat! I just figured that bird was destined to be eaten by a cat. RIP

Yes I did take that picture, and he was very easy to pick up. Shortly after I posted that picture,it shit on my desk, obviously it has been eating black berries. I took it to the lady I mentioned, but she does not take birds in anymore. So I took it to the animal hospital, and they also told me that they don't take them in anymore. They said to just take it home, and put it back where I found it,and that it would chirp for it's mother, and they would take care of it. I put him in a wooden planter here and it started chirping, and then just like I was told the mother came, and took care of her baby. The second or third time Jersey and I went out, we had a picnic on the beach. We had to cup our hands while we ate because the seagulls would literally swoop down and snatch food on its way to our mouths!

Somebody told me that it's good luck to have a bird shit on you. I've also heard that hummingbirds bring good luck and love birds bring bad luck. Anybody aware of superstitions and folk tales relating to birds?
