Since I live in Hayward I am only about 10 minutes away from Southland Mall but for me, Newpark is closer than Stoneridge simply becaue I can hop on 880 and I'm there. To go to Stoneridge I have to either go all the way across Hayward to 580 or go 880 to 238 to 580. I hear ya, I'm always on the 580 side of things so I do it w/o thinking & 238 is always such a little bitch, I don't blame you for avoiding it Is there anything harder than getting from 580 to 880 from say Dublin? They should just build a BART station and make it's parking lot status official. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I can make it to the Bay Area in about an hour and 15 minutes by car.
There are many famous concert halls including the Warfield (photo below), & The Fillmore in SF, and the Paramount & Fox Theaters in Oakland. Throw in Yoshi's jazz spots - and cool clubs like Ruby Skye, Bimbo's, and others - and you have multiple choices for LIVE music! ...Used to always hit the Berkeley records stores Rasputin & Amoeba on Telegraph. For those of you on the other side of the world - you may not know that the Golden State Warriors NBA team plays in Oakland. ...Many good times at Warriors games! In SF - I love the North Beach restaurant called the Stinking Rose

San Francisco is overrated, and I'm serious about this. I lived there for 15 years and thank you, lord I am OUT. I can't stand the weather. There is forever wind, a cold sly wind that whips around your neck all year long without fail. Thank you lord, for releasing me from that wind.
And there is too much cement. Tourists talk about the beauty of the city, but after living there and spending all my time there, for years, I beg to differ. Cement, cement, cement. Driving in the city is insane. Now to be fair, there is a lovely beach at the end of the city. A couple months ago, I spent the morning at my job in the financial district downtown, then hopped on a streetcar that took me directly to the beach on a very hot day. So it was like, tall skyscrapers one minute, then beautiful Ocean beach then next minute. Also the downtown area borders spectacular bay scenery with large fantastic boats. And that's nothing to sniff at for someone like me who hails from the Midwest! It took me a long time, but I finally moved to Berkeley. I spend most of my time around the downtown area, near UC Berkeley campus, and Telegraph Avenue. There is enough culture right here, I rarely need to go to the city. I see top notch plays, movies, ballets, concerts within walking distance of my house. The best records stores and ethnic restaurants are at my fingertips. Many hiking trails are nearby, and I can walk to the marina and hang out at the gorgeous bay and see this: So I'm settled here and there's no wind! But one thing I would say, is if you ever foresee owning a house in your future DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT move to the Bay Area.
