The Atlanta Housewives Are At It Again (aka is the Real Estate Market THAT F****** Up in Atlanta?)

Had just passed by my Yahoo page when this Real Housewives of Atlanta tidbit popped up. While I think it's cool that the Hartwells have settled for a measley 10 acres now (cough cough, sarcasm, cough), I am shocked at how many people are losing their homes to forclosure. Although I've luxuriated in many a large property (vacations, work, etc), I realize I know jack shit about homes and mortages: how long to you have to default on your bank loan for them to throw your house to the wolves for $1.9 million USD hmmm

Lisa Wu-Hartwell loses Duluth mansion

'Real Housewives of Atlanta' star loses home to foreclosure, according to TMZ

By KATIE LESLIE

There's more trouble at home for one of Atlanta's "real housewives."

The likable Lisa Wu-Hartwell and her husband Ed Hartwell reportedly lost their five-bedroom Duluth mansion last week due to foreclosure, according to TMZ.com.

Wu-Hartwell's rep, who was not named in the article, says the couple attempted to restructure the loan after the house lost value, but that effort failed. The once $2.9 million home, seen here on ajchomefinder.com last year , sold for $1.9 million Aug. 4 on the courthouse steps, according to TMZ.

Her rep also told TMZ.com the couple is happily settled in a new 10-acre property they recently purchased.

Wu-Hartwell isn't the first of the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" to have housing woes.

Sheree Whitfield lost her Sandy Springs home earlier this year due to foreclosure, and NeNe and Gregory Leakes were evicted from their five-bedroom Duluth home last fall after Winwood Properties filed a notice that Gregory Leakes owed $6,240 in past due rent.

http://www.accessatlanta....id=thbz_hm

I noticed that Sheree Witfield lost her home for a surprisingly paltry sum
shocked...for all that boasting she was doing in Season 1 of this show, you would think that instead running 4 thousand dollar boutique bills and trying to assemble fake fashion houses, she would have been on the grind to save her house whofarted. I mean, who can say entirely, but it looks like the only legitimately rich housewife they let go in the Atlanta franchise is Deshawn Snow, I know the Wu Hartwells do actually have their financial imprint all over Atlanta, but considering most of it is in real estate...um, um, um...

disbelief See this show is the most bogus of them all. Lisa filed bankruptcy in '07 yet trynna pose on tv like she's some mover and a shaker. I was JUST telling my friend yesterday that I hope Ed saved his dough. Guess he didn't. Oh, and usually it takes about 6-9 months of not paying your mortgage to end up in foreclosure. However, some folks in Atlanta are letting their houses go into foreclosure on PURPOSE because they've lost so much value. Then, they buy another phat ass house whose value is also depressed.

Yeah, but when he was with the Falcons, before he got hurt, he got a huge signing bonus plus his salary for a few years. So he made at least $10 mil in his career. Why not buy the house outright??? These mofos kill me not paying cash for shit. disbelief

Well the housing market is fucked up all around. Remember Ed McMahon was losing his home to foreclosure before his death and got bailed out by Donald Trump. The problem is buying more home than you can actually afford and not restructuring you loan prior to getting way behind in your mortgage payments. The market has been slumping for years and folks are just now trying to save their property? Come on.

I can't fault Sheree entirely because according to her mouth, her ex Bob was court ordered to pay the mortgage on Sandy Springs. I guess if a judge told me I didn't have to pay rent I probably wouldn't either. In Cali though, they probably would have had to liquidate everything and divy it up between the two of them.

On a positive note, who cares about a foreclosure if your new digs are nice if not nicer? lol

Most celebs do not pay for their homes outright. I used to work at Countrywide and even Schwarzenegger has a mortgage. WHY??? I don't understand it at ALL. The tax benefits on a mortgage are minor and don't outweigh the peace of mind of knowing can't nobody take your shit. Just look at Dame Dash and all the money he squandered yet at the end of the day everything was repo'd including his Tahoe. hah!

Damon Dash: From record & fashion big shot to has-been mogul
BY JOSE MARTINEZ
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Damon Dash
A bank wants his Tribeca condos, the city is seizing his SUV and his lawyer dropped him for not paying his legal bills.

It's not easy being Damon Dash, has-been hip-hop mogul.

The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and Rocawear - who in 2005 sold his share in the clothing empire to Jay-Z for $20 million - is under assault in Manhattan Supreme Court from lawyers, lenders and landlords fed up with not getting paid.

The fall has been a dizzying one for Dash, who has gone from owning Keds, a vodka company and 1,300 pairs of shoes to dodging bills and accusing a former accountant of ripping him off for millions of dollars.

"I've worked with musicians, artists and entertainers that in the eyes of the media are very wealthy," said lawyer Jason Gabbard, who represented a fashion firm that settled a suit against Dash and his wife over $148,505 in unpaid fees. "But to borrow a phrase from my Kentucky homeland, they haven't got a pot to p--- in - they're broke."

A Manhattan judge this week ordered the city to seize Dash's Chevrolet Tahoe, since he wasn't making the $714.99 monthly payment on the leased SUV.

That October suit came on the heels of one in August, when Eastern Savings Bank foreclosed on the $7.3 million mortgage for two trendy Tribeca condos where the monthly $78,504.26 bill went unpaid for months.

Dash faces an outstanding $2.1 million tab with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, a $4,500 bill from the state for not paying workers' comp and a suit that says he stiffed the law firm that handled his child-custody case.

Dash even got dumped by another firm representing him in a $3.5 million suit against accountant-to-the-stars Barry Klarberg, who is accused of bungling his tax returns, costing him millions.

"The suit is meritorious and we wish him well with it," said Harry Lipman of Rottenberg Lipman Rich.

Dash's descent into an MC Hammer-like financial abyss is a far cry from 2006, when he boasted about his butler and chef in New York magazine and said he was worth "about $50 million."

Dash, 37, did not respond to interview requests. Spokeswoman Amanda Silverman said in e-mails Dash "won all of his lawsuits."

The record proves otherwise.

Court records show Dash settled two suits accusing him of not paying rent on two Manhattan offices, as well as suits charging he owed big bucks to fashion designer Charlotte Ronson, the fashion firm Showroom Seven and a security company that guards celebs.

"Quite simply, he got behind on his payments and it was necessary to go after him legally," said Mike Zimet, whose Bronx security firm sued Dash in 2005 over an $86,547 tab. "If you do the work, you want to get paid for it."

Chile, uh uh...my sister lives a stones thrown from Sandy Springs, it's nice but it ain't all that. Sheree lost her home for 6 measley grand. That's ridiculous. That's two months rent for a 3 bedroom apartment in Paris or New York. I say fuck a She by Sheree, she should have been using that show as a platform to have a Love's Hangover Everything Must Go Garage Sale (like Bernadette in Waiting to Exhale), and grinding her ass off for something that would turn a profit. Shit, create a ringtone, bitch whofarted. You see she all muscular and whatnot, write a freakin' fly by night fitness book and hawk that bitch downtown at CNN headquarters. She had the captive audience that made her visable enough for somebody to take her calls in offices all around the country & she droppd the ball. Instead of going on Wendy Williams bragging about how much she got her husband for in their divorce she shoulda been on there with a product to promote....something, anything...but after all the frontin'you doin' how you gon lose your house for six thoussand dollars????

Nah, I think that was Greg and Nene that owed $6k in rent on their house. Sheree's husband must've been further behind than that. Remember when she said that she had spent $100k on her line??? whofarted hah!

but uh...just reinforces what I was saying about living beyond your means and not getting your money up front. I truly believe his 20 mill profit in that clothing line with Jay Z was not a lump sum earning nor was cash flow steadily coming in. These mofos are often rich on paper and use credit to obtain a lot of shit they don't need. His poor kids may not be getting child support if he's that damn broke. hmmm Did his ass even bother to store some cash away for such storms?

And uh...where the hell you get off being a rapper/entrepenuer and driving a damn Tahoe!!

Last week Nene adressed her foreclosure on the Tom Joyner morning show. She is so extra:

Scroll down to August 5th, 2008 and click on Nene Leakes.

The one thing I will say for her is that she does have hustle. She already has a book out and got a guest host gig on the Today Show. Loud ghettoness notwithstanding, she looks like she might be trying to take some pages from the Jill Zarin/Bethany Frankel/Kate Gosselin School of "Hawk Your Shit To Death to Broaden Your Brand"...not that that's a bad thing....

...in retrospect, knowing she paid 15 grand for her curtains, I wonder if she got them from the Zarins lol . Anyhoo....

Just look at Dame Dash and all the money he squandered yet at the end of the day everything was repo'd including his Tahoe. hah!

Were they really crooked like i suspected?

nod Oh totally. But every major bank dealing with mortgages was shady because there was too much easy money writing these loans. disbelief

He's without a team now, isn't he???

Yeah, but when he was with the Falcons, before he got hurt, he got a huge signing bonus plus his salary for a few years. So he made at least $10 mil in his career. Why not buy the house outright??? These mofos kill me not paying cash for shit. disbelief

You know, they are probably told not to buy it out-right by agents or financial advisers. That wouldn't surprise me at all.

What I don't get is why they feel they need to be extravagant with their money. To me, it just proves they aren't used to nothing.

That will be a good story. Especially when we find out how much money Birdman has screwed him out of.

nod True that, but there are TOOOO many cautionary tales of entertainers and athletes losing everything for these people not to know it's a good idea to pay for your shit. You ain't gotta be Warren Buffet to have common sense.
