I was so curious to see what you'd type when I saw your name at the end of the thread. Whatever it was, I knew you wouldn't take crap off anyone. Okay, a question to all Orgers: have you always been confident? Was it instilled in you from an early age? Or did you have to build it up? Is it something that comes naturally to you or is it like a muscle you have to flex at times? I am definitely confident in my ability to function as a productive, intelligent adult but I am not confident when it comes to how I look.

People can be insensitive. When I first came out of the hospital last year, my Mom took me to the mall and pushed me around in a wheelchair because I couldn't walk for a long period of time. People would gawk, or salespeople would address my Mom like I was invisible. That experience taught me a lot. Don't let them get U down. U keep givin' them that cute smile! "Love Hurts. Sorry you had to experience that. And yes they can be, I remember a friend at school 8 years ago, he has a similar disability, he told me a story. When he would go to the store with his mother and go to the counter to pay for the product, even though he HELD it himself, and held his wallet HIMSELF, they still looked at his mom (they were not looking at him one second) the whole time. He got upset and told them off and left the store. I totally understand. That's why Stevie Wonder is a huge influence on me personally also, the way he deals with his disability he beat all the odds. I was happy my father was able to pass this on to Stevie personally last year.

yeah, let me just decide to stop being extremely tall. no problem. I'm not talking about that. It just seems to me that many people who complain about being gawked at actually do things that make them stand out. Women who wear clothing that shows off their...ahem..."attributes" - then bitch that men stare and otherwise objectify them. People who get conspicuous piercings or tattoos - and then whine when others look. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with any of those things. But if you want to live an inconspicuous, anonymous life, that ain't the way to go about it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Thai people stare a LOT
If you look at them they don't look away either. They're not ashamed or self-conscious about staring. They just keep on staring as long as they feel like it. If you're walking past they'll often turn around as you go by if they wish to continue staring. I imagine I get this more as a foreigner here, but in general they do like a good stare. They have no qualms about picking their nose in public either, or walking around with a Poysian inhaler stuck up their nose.

I pointedly stare back and smirk, or if I am walking with a friend I stare back then nudge my friend point at the starer and .
I find that puts their eyes back in their eyes back in their heads. yes, it's mean...but it is only what they deserve for being rude in the first place. Edited: I only use the Smirk if I feel the starer is being a dick about it. The Smirk is a scared and powerful weapon to be used only in the most extreme circumstances (I learned the smirk from watching DBZ - Vegeta is the Prince of Smirk!) And when I see people I smile at them and 9 out of 10 they smile back. It is not all bad, because I experienced a lot of great things too. Like when I went to the club a few years ago and had to go to a different room in the complex...All sorts of people of all sorts of cultures and backgrounds made way for me to pass through and smiled at me. Male and Female. That made me feel like a person of the world.
