10. Which orgers that you've met surprised you the most? If you haven't met any, which ones surprised you on threads/in chat/other communications?

Dan's voice. lol

OK, you know what. Why am I always getting this? Are folks expecting me to sound like a girl or something?

1. Have you ever gotten into a heated debate/argument over a musician or musical group IN REAL LIFE? Do tell?

Story of my life. One of the thing I miss most about smaller independent record stores is the conversations I used to have with fellow record buyers and the clerks as well. A lot of arguments about Neil Young and R.E.M. stand out most in my mind, and there's the struggle I have with my best friend who all but prefers the Hagar-era Van Halen, where as I'm a Roth man. I can't recall ever hitting each other over our tastes in music, but I've had someone who was so determined to tell me how much my music sucked that they wanted me to fight with them.

2. How much time in a day or week do you spend listening to music? How much of it is new and how much of it is stuff you've owned a while?

I try to have as much music in my life as I possibly can, though there are times to be quiet, if for no other reason than to give my poor ears a break. I mostly listen to music on headphones, both when enjoying other people's songs or recording/revisiting my own material, so in an attempt not to go completely deaf by the time I'm 35, I take breaks for a day or two at a time if needed.

I look for new music online all the time, but most of it is underground music from nearby cities or overseas that I rarely revisit unless I happen to catch a show or an album that really captures my imagination. There are more records, tapes, cd's, dvd's and downloads than I know what to do with, so I just listen to what I want to and don't worry about what's new or hip anymore.

3. Do you like to share your love a band or do you prefer to be unique in your group of friends?

It's all about sharing, but I have found that some artists I latch onto are never going to mean as much to my circle of friends as they do to me, at least not in the near future, so I don't force my tastes on others the way I used to. If anything, I'd rather see what other people are into and figure out for myself what I like and don't like in their collections. I sometimes obsess over one artist or genre for months at a time, and I'm prone to change my mind constantly.

4. Which orger(s) (if you know) would you say have similar musical tastes to yours?

I'm so new here that I'm still getting acclimated to my surroundings, but I have noticed a few common favourite albums amongst some folks here, especially David Bowie's "Heathen". I'm sure that I'm in good company.

5. Which orger's threads do you tend to migrate to, by choice or despite your best intentions?

Again, still new, but I enjoy Swa's celebrations of Prince's albums. Very heartfelt. I'm not one to play favourites or hide in safe corners. I'm here to mingle and learn.

6. (POPULARITY QUESTION): Who are the funniest orgers?

n/a

7. (POPULARITY QUESTION): Which orgers say things which you tend to find very insightful?

n/a

8. Are there any objects in your house that remind you of bad times?

Of course, but they equally remind me of good times if I choose to focus on the happier memories. I will say that when I visit with my family, seeing my father's paddle doesn't bring back anything positive. Had that ass WHOOPED more than once back in the day....

9. What songs remind you of really good times?

Joe Jackson "Steppin' Out", REM "Radio Song", Prince "Cream", Guided By Voices version of "Pop Zeus", Earth Wind And Fire "Shining Star", Prince "Cream", Soundgarden "Outshined", U2 "The Fly", Janet Jackson "Escapade", Tony Toni Tone "Feels Good", TLC "What About Your Friends", Sly And The Family Stone "Stand", Tom Petty "Running Down A Dream", Busta Rhymes "Gimme Some More", Madonna "Cherish", Barnes and Barnes "Fish Heads", and the list just goes on...

10. Which orgers that you've met surprised you the most? If you haven't met any, which ones surprised you on threads/in chat/other communications?

Everyone that's spoken to me directly so far has been at least kind and, in some cases, welcoming, and I appreciate that. I know the forum rank and file more than a bit, and sometimes noobs are not treated with a lot of respect, so I appreciate the vibe here.

11. When you don't post, do you generally lurk or just have other things to do besides orging?

I was laid off from two jobs in the last month, so I spend more time online than I used to. Having said that, I'm enjoying reading what people write here. If I feel like I've got something to add, I will.

12. Where/what were you doing the day MJ died?

Getting ready for a road trip. A few folks had passed that week already, so it was hard to keep up with all the reports coming in, some saying he was ill, some that he had a heart attack, and then others confirming his death. What a mess.

13. Has it ever snowed in April where you live?

Yes, twice where I live now, and in Washington about seven years ago.

14. Other than the city in which you live, what is your favorite city and why?

It's a toss up between Baltimore and Los Angeles. But I've got my sights set on the Twin Cities at some point in the next five years.

16. What is the hardest that you've laughed recently?

A drunken game of Scattergories with a former bandmate, his girl and my partner. Priceless and hilarious.

17. What is the most thoughtful gift someone has given you recently?

Life is a gift (cheesy answer), and God gives it every day, so far. But as far as earthly possessions, I'm as thankful as I can be for my iPod.

18. How did you arrive at your religious beliefs (whether you're a believer or not)?

I don't belittle other people's viewpoints or desires for themselves and those that they love, and it's hard for me to sign on for most of what goes on in any organised religion. Having said that, I'm a child of Baptist/Presbyterian ministry, so I respect the Christian church to a large degree. My heart and mind can appreciate the world as it is, and I've been that way since I first put a thought together, so I don't have a label for myself. I live in the present. I seek to make beautiful music. That's all I truly understand.

1. Have you ever gotten into a heated debate/argument over a musician or musical group IN REAL LIFE? Do tell ?
yup. In high school, my friend Amy got pissed at me and another friend cause we were getting sick of her bumpin' Bob Marley all the time. She started screaming, "you like Prince and the Cure. What are they compared to Bob? N-O-T-H-I-N-G". falloff "Bob is a LEGEND!! A LEGEND!! L. E. G. E. N. D. , legend!!!" It was ridiculous lol
2. How much time in a day or week do you spend listening to music? How much of it is new and how much of it is stuff you've owned a while ?
Lately at least a couple of hours a day. I went for the better part of last year, only listening to music at the gym or at the clubs.
3. Do you like to share your love a band or do you prefer to be unique in your group of friends? ?
I used to like to share, but now I don't care either way.
4. Which orger(s) (if you know) would you say have similar musical tastes to yours ?
TRON about 80% similar. Carrie about the same. tackam about 90% similar
5. Which orger's threads do you tend to migrate to, by choice or despite your best intentions? ?
Fauxie, Carrie, Anxiety, Witches of Orgwick, johnart, Zombiekitten, Byron, Lammastide, and JDInteractive when he choses to start threads
6. (POPULARITY QUESTION): Who are the funniest orgers ?
Fauxie, Anxiety, Johnart, Alej/Prot/InsatiableC, Christopher, rusing07 headbang, CarrieCee, SinisterPooptastic, Supa, and Tame
7. (POPULARITY QUESTION): Which orgers say things which you tend to find very insightful ?
Always, TheAudience. I mean, always.
8. Are there any objects in your house that remind you of bad times ?
oh yes. I keep them in the closet. And cover them with a blanket lol
9. What songs remind you of really good times ?
Get In2 the Groove - Madonna love. One of my favorite songs from the 80s, it reminds me of my vacations in Clearwater beach Florida. Also, Pop Life by Prince which was out around the same time reminds me of Florida.
10. Which orgers that you've met surprised you the most? If you haven't met any, which ones surprised you on threads/in chat/other communications ?
Carrie. Girl is wild.
11. When you don't post, do you generally lurk or just have other things to do besides orging ?
When I don't post, I'm not lurking. I'm somewhere else.
12. Where/what were you doing the day MJ died ?
I had just gotten to my hotel room in Bangkok and turned the T.V. on.

13. Has it ever snowed in April where you live ?
Not in Tampa lol.... nor Germany or any of the 'colder' places I've been.
14. Other than the city in which you live, what is your favorite city and why ?
God, too many too really say with certainty, but Bournemouth England comes very close. It is an absolutely lovely town with lovely people and a gorgeous park. The beach is beautiful too, though I imagine the water is too cold for me lol 15. The Witches of Eastwick - Scurge of the org or delightful fun…or what the hell are you talking about, Dan ?
Love 'em
16. What is the hardest that you've laughed recently? ?
OMG, one night when some guys took me out to the Silom area of Bangkok--I'm not even going into detail, but I laughed so damned hard I almost chocked. Also, I did alot of giggling recently with Fauxie at Prince's expense mushy
17. What is the most thoughtful gift someone has given you recently ?
My aunt got ahold of a Buddhist pendent that is going to be made into a necklace for me. Apparently the monk she got it from doesn't give away many of them so it was hard to get. No matter, I'm touching base with my faith again, and this was given to me just at the right time.
18. How did you arrive at your religious beliefs (whether you're a believer or not) ?
I woke up one day about 7 years ago, and realized life is full of pain. I mean, it hit me like a ton of brickes---everything in my life was going well. I had a nice girlfriend, a new job that I loved, and a great social life, etc. etc.
But I just woke up with this profound sense that life was broken. That all my efforts, all my worries, all my joys--meaningless in the wash. For days I went through my week looking at everybody as if they were illusions...vapor.
This lead me down a journey towards following buddhism.
I mean, it wasn't a gradual realization for me. I literally woke up one morning and had these emotions rush through me. I never told my friends about it cause none of them understood me anyways--it would have just made things worse. However, having to internalize my struggle and search for meaning , despite it's awful and isolating drawbacks, also helped me more deeply look into myself.

Only now am I touching base again with this. This time, a bit more jaded. lol

touched Dan thats my home I go to that Beach at least once a week whaddaya mean cold water hmph!

1. Have you ever gotten into a heated debate/argument over a musician or musical group IN REAL LIFE? Do tell ?

Not really, I love to talk about music, but most people I talk to agree with me, and if they don't I stay respectful. At the most, I've corrected some unconfirmed rumors about Michael Jackson in the past

Wow, a whole lot I think it's essential being a musician myself. I don't even know exactly

3. Do you like to share your love a band or do you prefer to be unique in your group of friends? ?

Usually I share, although my friend Roy has a very different taste but we're childhood friends, it's rare

1. Have you ever gotten into a heated debate/argument over a musician or musical group IN REAL LIFE? Do tell ?

When I was in high school I had a heavy metaloid classmate who I'd always get into arguments with because he insisted this band called TRIUMPH made better music than Prince. Then I remember in college I got in a really ugly fight with someone about whether or not Prince was wearing a wig in Graffiti Bridge. It was REAL, dammit - REAL!!! bawl

2. How much time in a day or week do you spend listening to music? How much of it is new and how much of it is stuff you've owned a while?

Some days it's just an hour or so a day - on the way to and from work - but sometimes it's all day leading up to work, and then depending on the kind of job I have to do at work, I'll wear my earphones and listen to music while I work. Somedays I just need silence. I can't put that in a numeric amount because I don't like numbers. So there's that. Most of the time I listen to scramble play on my iPod so it's a mix of new and old. If I opt to listen to a whole album, it's usually something I've owned for a while, unless I'm trying out a new album.

3. Do you like to share your love a band or do you prefer to be unique in your group of friends?

It depends. I know when something I like is something other people would like, versus when it's so weird that it's best kept to myself. I haven't been able to turn many people on to the thumpin' beats of The Residents, for example. With one or two exeptions, I've known better than to bother.

4. Which orger(s) (if you know) would you say have similar musical tastes to yours?

Contrapposto and I are musical taste twins, and TRON and I are pretty similar as well. Applekisses and MoonSongs are really close, too.

5. Which orger's threads do you tend to migrate to, by choice or despite your best intentions?

I frequent Imago's threads the same way I crave cigarettes when I'm hungover. I know it's just going to make things worse, but I can't help myself. Johnart is more of a healthy choice, like those Julia Louis Dreyfuss frozen dinners. And of course, whatever incarnation Zelaira comes back as, those threads are always E-ticket rides.

6. (POPULARITY QUESTION): Who are the funniest orgers?

Funny ha-ha, or funny like Imago?

The funniest orgers are the random people who I've never seen post before, but they'll slip in a hilarious comment that takes me by surprise. Actually, the one orger I *do* know who can slide in a funny comment that catches me off guard every time is Heybaby. She's sooo funny, not just because of what she says but how she says it. Her sense of humor sneaks up on you, and I love that.

7. (POPULARITY QUESTION): Which orgers say things which you tend to find very insightful?

TheAudience, definitely, especially when it comes to music. I don't know how he retains the music knowledge he has, but you can always go to him with a question and if he doesn't know the answer, he knows where to find the answer, complete with a full bibliography.

8. Are there any objects in your house that remind you of bad times?

Well, I keep my mom's ashes in my library. It doesn't just remind me of bad times, though. I find it kinda comforting to still have my mom around, even though one day I know I'll be scattering her ashes once I can afford to take them where I want to set them free.

9. What songs remind you of really good times?

Deee-Lite. Dewdrops in the Garden album.

That, or "Driving on 9" by The Breeders.

10. Which orgers that you've met surprised you the most? If you haven't met any, which ones surprised you on threads/in chat/other communications?

Surprised? Well, before I met her in person, I thought Stymie was a dude. lol

11. When you don't post, do you generally lurk or just have other things to do besides orging?

I just kinda hang out and ban people. shrug

12. Where/what were you doing the day MJ died?

I was at work.

13. Has it ever snowed in April where you live?

I live in MPLS. It's snowing right now.

14. Other than the city in which you live, what is your favorite city and why?

I love New York and Chicago, because I have history and friends there. I would add Reykjavik to that short list if I had a way to visit more often, less because I have so much history there (shut up, Dan) but because it's one of the most charming places I've ever experienced.

15. The Witches of ORGtwick - Scourge of the org or delightful fun…or what the hell are you talking about, Dan?

They kind of remind me of a team of supervillains that would be on an episode of The Powerpuff Girls. That's a good thing in my book.

16. What is the hardest that you've laughed recently?

The way she taps on the child clown carrier. falloff

17. What is the most thoughtful gift someone has given you recently?

I got a copy of the Amanda Blank album yesterday. I had no idea what it was at first, but when I heard it and realized it was someone who had blown my mind at a concert last summer, it made my day. touched

18. How did you arrive at your religious beliefs (whether you're a believer or not)?

My philosophy professor in college and a Native American spirituality class she taught, and then a thesis presentation on Taoism that a friend of mine delivered (my philosophy prof was his adviser).

Was that really the last question? Oh my GOD, Imago. rolleyes purse
