I don't think your wife is a bum for missing work. I've done the same in the past. I don't actually mind my job but I have missed days there before because I value my time more than pleasing the boss and more than money!

I spend a lot of time at home doing things that mean a lot to me.

I know there are people out there who love kissing the bosses ass, or working long horrible hours for a good reputation- but who's going to thank you and give you a medal?

I want to hit my death bed with memories I'm proud of, not a life-time of work work work.

All work and no play makes me a dull boy...

Do it mattyjam. Have a day off smile

I hear what you're saying...I know some people who work late all the time, come in on the weekends trying to earn brownie points or something...and i say it's just not worth it...spend some time with you family, have some fun. (on the weekends and at night) BUT...that's what the weekends are for and that's what vacations and holidays are for. SICK days are supposed to be for when your SICK...not "I got stuff to do round the house days" IMO anyway.

The last time I actually did it because I was sick was in early 2005. The only job that I actually did it often was when I worked at Target in 2006. The job was so mundane and I made no money so I called in sick occasionally to catch up on school work. Since then, I have not called in sick once.

never. my conscience won't let me, even if i desperately want to stay home.

I would feel guilty for the lie, I like my boss too much to take advantage of his kindness. He has always been beyond kind to myself and my family, he recommended my son to his friend for a job and now my son has a kick-ass job with excellent pay. If I am sick, I will stay home. But I won't pretend to be sick to bum around. confused

That actually made me laugh out loud.

My God... you all seem like perfect employees!

Some of you must be lying... I used to do it ALL the time, it was really quite shameless and I started getting very paranoid about it.

I've since cleaned up my act, but I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it every now and then.

I completely agree they should be called 'mental health days'...
