How often do you pull a sicky at work?

My wife does, sometimes when she isn't ill. I used to be pretty bad but in recent years I tend to only do it when I'm genuinely unwell.

How often do you guys call in sick when you're actually fine?

I used to only call out when I felt like taking an extended weekend and was feeling just fine.

Now, however, I do save my sick days for when i genuinely don't feel well.

I can't afford to. My son has been sick so often since he started daycare last fall that I have used up all my sick days for this year.

Totally sucks.

Nah, I need those days. I'm use to collecting them for those times when the kids got sick and CA didn't have the coverage for that stuff.

Anxiety

i've been really good with not calling in sick this year. i actually left work early once this week because of a nasty cold i have, but it was only because it was really dead at work and it seemed stupid to be sick and miserable with nothing to do for the rest of my day.

i'm trying to be a PTO miser this year so i have a lot of time left to use during the holidays. it's depressing to have to work the days surrounding christmas and new years, and i will NOT work on new years eve. no no no!

I don't think your wife is a bum for missing work. I've done the same in the past. I don't actually mind my job but I have missed days there before because I value my time more than pleasing the boss and more than money!

I spend a lot of time at home doing things that mean a lot to me.

I know there are people out there who love kissing the bosses ass, or working long horrible hours for a good reputation- but who's going to thank you and give you a medal?

I want to hit my death bed with memories I'm proud of, not a life-time of work work work.

All work and no play makes me a dull boy...

Do it mattyjam. Have a day off smile

that's turning into my policy. plus, if i'm super sick the first day and go home early, they'll know the next day when i call in that i'm not playing hooky.

not that there's anything wrong with playing hooky. but when i'm sick, i don't need my job giving me crap about taking time off, so it helps when i can come in and give them some proof and spread some germs around the office. smile

I know! How many times have people told me to stay late at a party and "just phone in sick" and I can't make myself do it.

Once every few months. I have tons of vacation leave (and sick leave) saved up but it's always "this is not the right time to take some time off". So supposedly "being sick" is the only way I can seem to get a day off when I'm tired and worn out.

My conscience kills me when I call my boss to call in sick. I even pace the floor trying to decide if I'm really going to call or not. She's very good to me and she's not lying when she says I'm needed and it's not the right time to take some time off but damn, sometimes I got to have a day off and this is the only way I know to do it.

I find that it helps the schedulers if you let them know you have something planned (whatever it is), and that's why you need the time off.

That has worked in the past but in the last year or so, my boss has been very sick herself. This is a woman that has worked herself to death both day and night for years and even comes to work sick as hell when we have begged her to go home. Seeing how sick she is these days, I don't have the nerve to ask for a day off and when I do call in "sick", I feel guilty as hell because I know she really is sick. There's only three of us in the office and the other worker, well...she's always "sick" so it's been mainly me and my boss and we're both each other's backbone. We work really good together and fight like a married couple. I call us Ashford and Simpson. lol
