woman sues college for tuition because she can't find a job

i mean really... confused

NEW YORK - A New York City woman who says she can't find a job is suing the college where she earned a bachelor's degree.

Trina Thompson filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court, The New York Post reports. The 27-year-old is seeking the $70,000 she spent on tuition.

Thompson says she's been unable to find gainful employment since she received her information technology degree in April.

She says the Bronx school's Office of Career Advancement hasn't provided her with the leads and career advice it promises.

Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank says Thompson's lawsuit is completely without merit.

The college insists it helps its graduates find jobs

Is that why Keisha Sunshine has yet to return my e-mails???? I thought it might have something to do with her busy super-modeling career, when she's not doing her neurosurgery practice on the side.

neutral Wait a minute.

Colleges exist to educate people. Employment, or better pay is usually a nice side benifit, but has absolutely no guarantee.

Thanks for that, tips.

I'm just saying, being in the same situation, sometimes I wonder why I bothered going to school if it has yet to pay off.

Clearly, I would never do anything to that extreme.

But hang on. Many colleges and trade schools do make promises of employment after the fact. If this school advertised in its promotional literature that they help place graduates with jobs but they haven't done so, then she may have a legitimate case.

She's earned a Bachelor's degree, and based on other media I've read about this, seems to have been lead to believe the school would assist in job placement. What makes you call her a "dumb bitch"?

I wouldn't do anything as extreme as suing a school that didn't help me find a job after the fact, but I can't say I blame her. I'm mostly through a degree that I already know is going to get me nowhere.

wow, but doesn't that depend on whether they can prove they helped her look for work? Maybe her qualifications weren't good enough and that is why she doesn't have one? If they can prove they helped her than she might have no case right?

Not sure...

A LOT of schools use their job-placement rates as selling points to prospective students.

Based on my own experience, some schools' idea of "help" is sending you off to a career counsellor to take personality tests. I already know I'm an extrovert, thanks. How's that supposed to help me pick a career?

She graduated with a Bachelor's degree, so it's safe to assume she's no slack. Granted, I'm no expert but from what I've heard about this she does have a legitimate complaint.
