RANT: things that u find hilarious that others find problematic

the two threads i started, the one about the "raped" best man and the glued adulterer, have some orgers laughing hysterically while others find them repulsive and sexist (if it were a woman...etc).
my question is...humor subjective or are we all supposed to like or dislike the same things?

i find dark humor in a 4-time philanderer being confronted by all his mistresees and wife at one time. super gluing your wee-wee to your stomach? hilarious. it comes off with nail polish remover (don't get in your pee-pee hole though). if dude kept his dick in his pants, he wouldn't be in the predicament he was. the fact that they were being mentally cruel to him by asking such horrific questions like "who do you want to be with?" is just a bonus

i also find humor in a dude who orders the anal package, take his pants down, gets his ass lubed and is shocked when he gets a dildo in the butt. this was not sexual assault, this was naivite' at best, stupidity at worst. if you come to a hotel room asking for the dick special, and got a whole tube of ky on your ass and u get on all fours..guess what? u'r getting the dick special.

just sayin'

heybaby

Now I don't know who genuinely felt this way(I know a few who do) or not but I do know that sometimes people have a tendency to follow the crowd so as not to make waves. PC is safer. Going against the grain creates the fear of being judged. I found both threads to be funny but offensive. There is a double standard but it didn't bother me too much. The thread about the drunk driving, weed smoking mother killing her daughter, nieces, and others is what pissed me off. but to each its own.

I think most of the folks here are fine with edgy humor. In the case of the dude who was kidnapped by 4 women and assaulted, it's a little different in that -- as Harle said -- a double standard is obvious in the reporting of the story. The same double standard shows up in most stories about males being taken advantage of by females.

Some of us know men who've been in situations where they've been forced to have sex by women or have been assaulted by women. To us, we still see how folks find humor in a cheater getting the tables turned on him, but we also have loved ones who bear the scars of what others might find a punchline. That's what tempers our response.

At least, it tempers mine.

I don't know Mr. Fury. Personally, I don't find other people's misery to be funny. I've had a lot of my own pain so I find that I can empathize with pretty much anyone. I think some people here take my view on these things as trying to be better than anyone, but I'm not. I just don't see what's wrong with not saying mean shit or doing mean shit to other people. If others get their rocks off that way, more power to them. Some of it, I equate to internet bullying because I can't imagine people would laugh in someone's face in real life.

Racial stuff, homophobic stuff, anti-Semitic stuff and stuff about people with disabilities just isn't funny to me. Rape, pedophilia, people gluing someone's penis isn't funny nor someone getting what they deserved when a person can choose to just leave an asshole alone.

People are free to do as they choose but just because we can say stuff doesn't mean we should. For the most part, I just do what Ms. SCNDLS said and just not post to those types of threads. I am learning to ignore it instead of infringing on others' good time.

I wouldn't laugh if it was someone suffering. Even if they just tripped over in the street.

I don't find it hilarious but I feel strange seeing others find relationships and marriage problematic. I feel blessed too and very, very lucky so I try not to take what I have for granted. It really does seem very hard for many people to find love and be content.

Everything, that's my example. lol

I can find humor and laughter in death, illness, poverty, hunger, you name it.
If there's one thing I've learned from illness and loss is that life is too short for me to get hung up on the negative. I need allow myself to laugh, without exclusions.

And no that does not mean that I don't recognize the seriousness of those situations.

I almost agree. Humour can be found in a lot of things. In things related to certain topics it's about where the humour is coming from and who the laughing is directed at though. Back in 2001 Chris Morris and his team on the infamous satirical programme 'Brass Eye' did a special on paedophilia. It was funny, but of course there was outrage in the UK from many quarters. I knew it was pushing the envelope even using the topic as the context for comedy, but I couldn't deny it was funny and I understood just who and what was being poked fun at. Shakey ground, though.

Well I probably wouldn't go to someone's funeral and crack a joke about how they died. Unless that was the type of person they were.

I'll give you an example. When my mother passed, she was cremated. The Funeral Director Dude was showing us urns. It never dawned on me how outrageously expensive an urn could be. If my mother hadn't already been cremated into a pile of ashes she would have been turning.
I said to the guy, "How much for a couple of Zip Locs? My mom was very partial to those." He was mortified.
That kind of irreverence was very my mom. I did her proud.

I wouldn't laugh at a starving child, but I might laugh that the CARE children were starving cause Sally Struthers was eating the donations. I mean she got bigger and bigger in those commercials. neutral

The perv on Family Guy is hilarious. But of course I don't think that actually touching a kid is funny. Humor is everywhere.

I also should say, I don't expect everyone to have the same sense of humor. But folk do tend to come down hard on those who do have a dark/irreverent sense.
I would say if someone starts a thread on a serious subject and they don't want humor in it they should mention it in the first post and hopefully their wish might be respected, but on the other hand, it is a public forum, different pov's are what keeps things interesting.

I try not to direct my wrath at a person and point out that it is how I feel/my opinion. I may fail at it sometimes but I really am cool with people being who they want to be. I don't have to like it. lol
