I thought football was a game of two 45 minute halves of 100% commitment, passion, energy and skill. Broken up with a 15 minute interval which has nothing to do with advertisemnts or corporate hospitality, but more for the "ordinary" fan to get themselves a hot pie and bovril.

When played in the height of the afternoon sun in temperatures of over 100 degrees as was the case during USA 94, it can make players lose weight drastically over the course of a match.

So whats all this about 3 hours etc? You wouldn't be talking about that silly Gridiron affair would you?
This "sport" deserves its place next to pool, darts, fencing and gymnastics - as the worlds most foolish games.

How do you like that, John Madden???
lol

English football is a REAL sport...

I like sports, but I don't like events where guys stand around in tight pants and don't do anything for a long time and accidentally run every once in a while.

biggrin[/quote]

What, you didn't enjoy Riverdance? lol

HOCKEY RULES!!! - HE SHOOTS HE SCORES!!!
Now that is a sport that requires incredible physical strength, stamina and knowledge. Try running front and backwards on skates while trying to anticipate and manouver a puck at the same time and the booty! is DA BEST!

football is about strength. it's about one team knocking the other team simple. in tv games, the players do stand around because of commercials time outs,etc...

but what exciting about it to me is that it's about strategy. how is one team going to score on the other when they have a worthless quaterback (redskins! mad)

it's a human chess game with muscular men in tight pants trying to score. if that isn't exciting, i don't know what is!

I know, babe, but you're in a different conference. Detroit is on top for the Western Conference (why we're in the Western conference I'll never know.)
It'll all come down to the finals.

I was waiting for a fellow Brit to hijack this thread!

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom." - Danny Blanchflower

thank u thank u thank u worship I must say, Leaf Fans are THE MOST DEDICATED - whenever we win a game in the playoffs, the city practically shuts down with the streets full of leaf fans - we are so desperate to win the cup sad however, for Curtis Josephs sake, I hope Detroit wins this year woot!

How long does a football game last from start to finish? About 3 1/2 hours or so, right? Maybe a bit longer in order to get in some extra advertisements and such for the networks...

3 hours on average. The variables are time outs for instant replay, injuries, clock stopping because of incomplete passes, etc.

How much time is spent with the player actually doing something other than just standing around? About 10 minutes or so... maybe 15 minutes if they are REALLY going at it.

A football game is one hour, 60 minutes of playing time spread over two halves of 30 minutes.

How can you call that entertaining?

By UNDERSTANDING the game and realizing the talent and skill involved. biggrin

YAY!
We Detroit and Toronto fans are always hand-in-hand smile I would LOVE to see you guys win a cup. It's been way too long and it's really a shame to see all of the expansion teams taking the cup away from the original six.
I'll say a prayer for you guys pray
It should have been Wings vs. Leafs in the finals last season. That would have been AMAZING!

I know, but when you come out negative on a sport you know nothing about.I had to defend the sport i love.I know you don't like football because it is one of the few topics you don't post in.And downtalking the sport may decrease the number of topics about football from those who worry about coming off cool.As for me i like what i like.

I would hope that this topic doesn't stop anyone from posting about football... I never post on the football topics and I leave them alone. I have never wrecked a football topic yet and I was just having fun here.

I am sorry if this one offended you.
