Miranda had the best one liners. Yeah, she was the most appealing all-around.

[Edited 8/3/09 16:20pm] It would've been pretty boring if she showed up all prepped and full of knowledge about roughin' it. But my heart belonged to Samantha from Episode 1. Still does.

One thing I noticed about most female LEAD characters in TV shows like this...
The naive clueless girl who falls into the same hole eeeeverytime she walks down that road,,,,the audience has an affinity with that character for some reason I can't understand, is it because she's not a "threat" for being too dumb? Susan from Desparate Housewives comes to mind, they keep throwing that clumsy bitch @ our faces,,,,,she just NEVER learns.

Interesting observation -- is the implication that audiences of such shows would be intimidated from someone who's on top of it all?

I agree with most of everything here.
And I love her anyway. I looooove Carrie Bradshaw as a character. I can’t help it. She’s human. She makes the same mistakes over and over, just like so many of us do. And the show was never about being “real” or “realistic”. A girl who writes a weekly column for a newspaper couldn’t afford even a third of her shoe collection let alone the wardrobe, even if her apartment is rent-controlled. Marrying Big was the fairy-tale ending, not the realistic ending. She finally got the un-get-able man. No one gets the un-get-able man in real life. (Cause we wake up and realize we don’t want him! Even the relationship with the Russian was a fairytale. And she decided to follow it as far as it could go. How many people have the courage to do that? I love it. |

Yes. Somehow 'smart, intelligent' women get deemed too,,,,,'alienating'. Yeah, which is unfair to smart, intelligent women: Alienating women are often alienating. Period.

Maybe in 'independent cinema' since they're the ones who have nothing to lose.

I'm not saying she has to be a lumberjack I'm just looking for some common sense. Stuff like that seems to encourage and celebrate women being overly self-involved, impractical, and an all-around dingbats.

Exactly, but I can give Susan a bit of a pass cuz her being naive and dingbatish is central to her character. Carrie on the other hand is actually supposed to be an expert on men and relationships and is anything but naive. She's making these mistakes with full knowledge. What bugs me is that she lays down in the middle of the street when she's been runover already. The fact that they broke up and got together in every one of the six seasons PLUS that bullshit in the movie annoys me to death. All of the characters changed and evolved after six seasons EXCEPT her.

I don't even expect her to be on top of everything. Everyone has flaws and it should be reflected on tv as well. My beef is this lead female character makes the same mistake over and over and over and over and over. Why??? What message does that send? Why is she so celebrated for perpetuating the bullshit? I'm very anti-fairy tale and this character IMO just promotes the dumb ass bill of goods women have been sold for centuries.

I was more excited about the first movie but still didn't see it until it came out on DVD. So chances are I'll be waiting for this one to hit HBO.

Heck, I liked it even less after I realized I was dating a Carrie who kept sabotaging our relationship: She loved the show, she patterned even her shoe-buying decisions after it, and she was extremely neurotic. Book-brilliant but lacking sense.

oh was i cheering with excitement when sam gave it to her good when she tried looking down on her about the delivery boy incident Okay, I'm watching this one now and I must say that Carrie didn't say that much about the incident, but I woulda clowned Samantha forever for that shit. That was just disgusting and dangerous for her to put some stranger's unwashed, out all day delivering packages penis into her mouth in her office. Not classy and extra hoeish IMO.

Some people take time to open up and I wouldn't hold that against a guy if he was treating me right. I liked him better, because from the start the Russian included Carrie into his world in a way that Big never did willingly. She had to harrass Big into every lil inch that he gave and he didn't give much. He didn't even tell her he was moving to Paris until she just happened to call him a few days before he left.

I've just decided that after Miranda, Enid, Carrie's Vogue editor, is my favorite character. I love how uncomfortable she made Carrie and she had some good lines too. Enid: "The key to having it all: Stop expecting it to look like what you thought it was going to look like. That's true of the fall lines, and that's true in relationships."

Enid: "The key to having it all: Stop expecting it to look like what you thought it was going to look like. That's true of the fall lines, and that's true in relationships." Enid's the bomb. She has one of my favorite quotes in the series: "East Side, West Side--who the hell knows down here?" And she has the best line in the movie: "Forty is the last age a woman can be photographed in a wedding dress without the unintended Diane Arbus subtext."

That was deep. | |
