6.9 Earthquake Felt in San Diego An earthquake measuring 6.9 struck Monday in Mexico but people in downtown high rises felt the shaking.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake struck at 11 a.m. about 50 miles northeast of Santa Isabel in Baja, Calif. At San Diego's City Hall one city employee reported seeing crowds of people filing out of the building. By 11:30 a.m., the crowd of people had moved back inside. We've gotten reports from two people working on higher floors at two separate downtown high rises saying books fell of shelves and file cabinets rocked. One news crews stopped by Fire Station 1 on First Avenue where crews had already pulled fire trucks out of the station and had just put them back in. Firefighters said they had no reports of damage in the downtown area. One of our Facebook users, Raffael Antonio Scullari in North Park, messaged us saying nothing was felt in North Park. Delfina sent us an email saying the SANDAG offices at the Wells Fargo Plaza were swaying. Daphanie works for the city at 4th and B and emailed us to tell us that her building shook during the quake as well. Did you feel the shaking? Let us know about your experience in the comment field below. Check back for more information on this developing story. i just thought it was the bass in my music turned up too loud. I have never, ever felt an earthquake. Not wishing for one or anything; just saying I lived in California for a really long time and managed to avoid ever really experiencing one. I slept through one once and my friends were shocked.
That said, I'm glad you're okay, Eric.

Apparently it was felt in our downtown buisness area here in Phoenix, Arizona. I read about it after the fact, 5 or more hours after it happened. I work about 15-20 minutes of drive time away and did not feel a shake at the time it happened, which was between 11:30 a.m. and right before 12:00.
I read and will probably hear, it shook a buisness building violently enough where they evacuated the entire building. Hmm. That is crazy. [Edited 8/3/09 21:03pm]
