The iPod Touch

Can you build playlists on it? Or do you have to do that on a computer? I'm thinking of getting one for my parents.

So, once the songs are on the Touch, you can't create playlists there? You have to do it on a computer?

Nope, there's not a lot you CAN do with your music once it's on the pod, except shuffle or repeat it. It has to be done through your computer. Mine is a first generation one though, so I don't know if it has changed with the later editions shrug

i would hold off until after october, i read they are expected to come out with new ones in august sept or oct. so wait a moment and see. maybe the new ones will let you create playlists on them. they are expecting the new one to do even more much like an iphone.
One feature they are expecting is to be able to make phone calls through the internet on an itouch too.

Actually that's not true. geek You can build your own playlists on the touch using the "On the go" option, which allows you to build playlists on the ipod itself. nod

Ah, there to go then! As I said, mine's a first generation and doesn't have that feature (OR it does have it but I haven't stumbled across it yet as I'm a complete tech-pleb!)

Go to "Playlists" then "On-The-Go" then you can select songs.

On a non-Touch iPod, you select the songs/albums/artists you want to add to the playlist by holding down the select button.

It's not a button. It's the playlist at the top of the list.
