If U Don't Know My Name, Please Don't Call Me by Name This is why I only say "hi." I know people like to hear their names spoken. but People don't like to be called by other names.
At my job I have been called Jason, Max, Brian, Alex, Jim, and most recently, Tim. Why say someone's name when you obviously don't know their name? My Legacy

I used to know a lady who used to call me "Joyce" for some reason. No matter how many times I nicely told her, "My name is Nancy", she INSISTED on calling me Joyce. Why, I don't know. Maybe I looked like a Joyce. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Even after you told her? that reminds me of Annie Hall, where Woody Allen's character had a friend who insisted on calling him "Max" even though his name was Alvie. But Woody does seem a bit like a Max. My Legacy

A few years back I started a new job, then a few weeks later I became pregnant. Now, I'm not great with names as it is and for some reason my addled pregnant brain got stuck on the name 'Dave', so all the fellas that came in the office got a cheery 'alright Dave?!' from me... It wouldn't have been so bad but they all had their names embroidered clearly on their shirts They quickly nicknamed me 'Trigger' (Only Fools and Horses reference) I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

this used to happen to me ALL THE TIME at my old job
We were supposed to "get to know our customers better" by asking them for names to write on their coffee cups, before serving their drinks Some customers in return would try to remember our names...I think I was called every S name in the book during this period One lady still calls me Shaina to this day when she sees me out If you will, so will I

They say it's great for business & networking to say people's names. But I doubt it's good networking to call people by the wrong name. My Legacy

Jason, Jim, Max. But they are also for the most part just common boring male names. In a way it's like telling me that I have a totally nondescript name. as in "I won't do it like Kevin" [Edited 7/29/09 15:28pm] My Legacy

Actually that reminds me, a co worker for some reason spelled my name aloud to me when I entered the room as "A N D R U" and I corrected him with this spelling that I now use here. My Legacy

Robert. More people call me that than Richard even if I correct them 10 million times. It's to the point that I just respond to Robert because I know they're talking to me 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
